How do I lock or password a "Sensitive Folder" to stop unwanting eyes opening it up?

Many thanks

Disable simple file sharing and put some NTFS permissions on it. Otherwise I guess you could ZIP it up, not as secure but would serve the purpose :)

thats great......is there away of keeping the locked folder visible though after it has been locked?
Other than that it is great

folder properties > hidden

View > Properties > Show hidden folders, uncheck

Erm, why would you use a freeware program when all the folder security you need is in windows itself with NTFS permissions

i think the OP is trying to hide the folder on his own user area, not across a network. so if someone goes looking through his computer, they won't find his "sensitive" files.

can you password protect in that nature with windows too? if so, i need to know how to do that.

Would the Encrypting File System (EFS)not be good here? Other people would be able to see the contents of the folder but they wouldn't be able to view the contents of any of the files.

If you do go for EFS make sure you back up your public and private keys as a loss of access to Windows means porn/data gone forever! No slapping the HD in another PC and pulling it off.

Making the folder 'hidden' is not a good way of preventing access. Hidden folders can still be searched by any user. Imagine someone searches for a picture and selects look in hidden folders.... and up turns naked ladies!

I would ensure your account is password protected and use NTFS permissions. Make other users use another account. Be warned that NTFS does not stop someone pulling the drive out and slapping it in another PC and pulling files off. Hope this helps ;)

You don't need to be on a network to use NTFS file permissons. With simple file sharing turned off, they will work just fine locally assuming that they don't all use one account :)

Also your drives file system has to be NTFS.

Last sentence - rather good choice of words :)

Anyway, I've used folderlock and it does the job - the wife can't find anything.

The absolute best prog for encrypting and/or hiding files by a long long way is True Crypt. At the moment even the NSA/FBI/GCHQ/MOSSAD would not be able to crack it, that's assuming they can find the file/files in the first place. A must for all Pron horders :D
