I'm going to build my own PC which would be my first one and it will be used for normal home office use.

I am going to buy the following software:

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition inc. SP2 - OEM - 1Pk (N09-01528) (OS-001-MS), and
Microsoft Works Suite 2006 - OEM (SW-018-OEM)

...but not quite sure about the security side and was suggested the following:

Symantec Norton Internet Security Suite 2006 - OEM (SW-017-NO)

...so the question is will this be OK or are there any alternatives ?

Thanks

There's about 100 threads on this topic mate, some further down this very page. However, the best you can get is...

Kaspersky 6 or NOD32 (both as good as each other when you weigh up all the aspects imo, I use NOD32 personally).

Adaware SE (free).

SpywareBlaster (free).

Sygate/Zonealarm.

I use those and nothing touches my computer no matter where I surf. ;)

:)
