I have a problem with my hard drive and it was suggested to try and use Knoppix as a recovery process, see this thread.

Well I booted from the CD and so far so good I can now see the data on the old drive, but when I try and make a new folder in my other drive to copy the old data to it says I don't have write permission to either drive.

Anyone have any ideas?

Should be doable,

-what format is the drive you want to write to? (ntfs etc)

-do you have a seperate cd/dvd drive that can be used to write to a cd? (as an alternative)

-also, can you open up a terminal / console and post the output of:

Code:
df -h

I think it's because my second drive is NTFS and Knoppix can't write to this natively. It talks about the captive NTFS driver, but this doesn't seem to be in the copy of Knoppix I have (5?).

I don't have another CD drive so can't burn the files to CD, and I don't have a spare drive to format as FAT. My USB drive is already formatted at NTFS and has stuff on it already.
