Pretty good framing and the colours are good but the DOF is so small pretty much everything is out of focus bar his eye.

When taking close ups you need to put the camera into AV mode (aperture priority) and set it higher (to at least f8) to get a wider band of sharpness across the frame.

Hope this made sense.

Yeah it does indeed, I was shooting in Av mode, but I was in 2.8 mostly, then i put that one up to f4 but I aint sure about how much is in focus at each f number. So got a bit stuck :p

How much is in focus depends on the amount of zoom you're using and if you've got teleconverters or close up filters on your lens. Generally I try and use at least f8 to get the subject in focus.
