Hey...

Sorry for yet another thread, but I have decided for the 3rd time in a row, to grab an ATI card.

That means all I need to decide on is Conroe or X2 ;)

But meanwhile, back on topic... Is the X1900XT worth it over the X1800XT?

I have heard that the only major difference between the X1900XT and 1800XT is that the x1900 have more shaders... I have seen a website with the x1900XT for 241 pounds, which is pretty good, considering that 256MB x1800XT is around 190 or so. Is it worth the extra 50 for the card, or should I just grab a cheaper card, and save my cash?

Bah, sorry I forgot to mention the screen res I will be using :/ I am using a 20 inch wide screen, so the res is 1680x1050

I just dont want to buy the X1800XT and then feel I should have splashed out a bit more cash or the better performance....

i had a x1800xt 512mb at the same res as youre going to be using, i then got a x1900xt and there was a healthy improvment, id say go for the x1900xt for the extra 50quid and never have to worry about upgrading gfx card again until dx10/vista is established. ive also read that games will be making good use of the extra shaders on the card too.

i didnt overclock either, the x1900 was faulty so i only had an hours use out of it but enough to see the benefits. my fps in BF2 alone jumped up 30ish with the x1900.
i was also using stock cooling and these cards get extremely hot, so i didnt want to add heat

Definately get the X1900, I run the same rez as you and trust me you need every bit of performance you can get! Just try and pick up an X1900 as cheap as possible. :)

Def get the x1900 then at that res the x1800 will struggle with AA and AF.

Yeah get the x1900 for that res, if it was something like 1280x1024 your max then i would'nt bother, but that res deffo. :)

Btw look around as you get x1900 XT's for only £207 all in, someone on here got one.

I'd go with the 1900xt especially if you like oblivion. Its the fastest card for that game apart from the 1900xtx and the SLI/Crossfire setups. Its one of the few cards that can do more than 30 fps at high quality settings. I'm so tempted to get one myself but i'm hoping that'll it'll drop to around £175 over the next few months.
