Serious answers please.

I'm thinking about a career in the Royal Navy as a Warfare specialist (basically operating ships weaponry etc). i've looked at all the information on the RN website but wanted to hear from those that may have any experiance.

life is just a load of **** right now and i just want to get away from it all, so the navy seems like the best option.

anybody got any advice about careers in the navy?

true part of it is to get away from all the problems, but it really seems like something i would enjoy, out at sea. one of my friends is just back on leave from the navy for a few weeks and the stories i've heard just sounds like an amazing place to be and an amazing thing to be doing.

i've always been interested in a career in the armed forces, but the navy just appeals to me so much more

Having spent the last 2 years of my life with a mass of ex-Navy, they all recommend it. And yet some of the stories they tell (specially the special forces ones), make me poo my pants.

Try and get a placement on a carrier/LPD if you want some booty!

Exactly right, the Navy is a tough job like any job in the military and you will only cope if you want to be there, if you go to run away from problems you will hate every minute. The military isn't for everybody.

My old line manager was a Chief on frigates for about 30 years, and loved every second.

However my experience of the fleet to date, would incline me to go for the Invinc/Lusty/Ark Royal due to space and abundance of females in uniform (although strictly forbidden of course ;).....

Leaving the Navy

You may choose to give 12 months notice to leave the Royal Navy at any time after you have completed a minimum period of service, which for most branches is just under 3 years. For those branches with longer training, this period of service may also be longer. Exact details can be discussed with your Careers Adviser and will form part of your Terms of Service.

If it's not for you

If you decide soon after joining that you are not suited to Naval life, you can apply to leave during your first 6 months of Service provided you have completed at least 4 weeks training, (excluding any leave).

Just thought that should be posted, even if you decide its not for you then, you will back with a great insight of the navy and a few storys..

My life went arse up aswell mate.
Im thinking about Joining the Army.

Im not thinking aboiut joining the Army to get away from every thing, even though it does play a part in things.
Its just that since my life went all arse up for the first time in my life i dont have any fear of dieing what so ever.
And im too active for my own good and couldnt stand a standard job due to boredom or repetitiveness.
Ive always been an active person so maybe when i gain some fittness back a bit i may join :)

Went to to school with a guy who joined the navy on a 7 year tour, or whatever they call it.
He says it was ok.
Thats about it.
