Best Place for MOT

I always get my car serviced at a VW dealer, but now it is at the age where it needs an MOT. Is there any obvious advantage to getting it done at a dealer? It was only serviced last month so it should be fine... Also is there a list of everything in the test so I can just check it myself?

EDIT - just looked on some government sites, am I correct in saying the MOT fee is the same no matter where I take the car?

I think it varies, I just MOT'd my friends Mondeo at a Ford garage and it cost #44.15.

The best place is a dedicated MOT testing centre, I'm not being flippant (for once) I'm saying go to such a centre that just does MOT's and has no interest in "finding work" whilst testing your car.

I use just such a place in Cheadle, Staffordshire, great guys, honest, no bull, not failed a car I've taken there ,yet.

Myself and a friend paid £40 for our last MOTs.

Only remember because he phoned me thinking he'd been done, so I dug out my last invoice.
