Vauxhall.

Breakdown of there most common cars:

Nova - Stipulates the whole idea of boy racers/chavs. Can look ok rally slagged up, but the image that goes with them and the mofos that drive them make them hate worthy.

Corsa - Always look really high and gash. Usualy seen with stupid 15" alloy wheels that never fit the arch properly.

Astra - Underpowered olds mobile for the ricer with negative style levels.

Calibra - Looked upto within the ricer scene but nothing more than a wanna be sporty car.

Cavalier - Just crap.

Corsa - Always look really high and gash. Usualy seen with stupid 15" alloy wheels that never fit the arch properly. --- 15" alloys are pretty much standard fit for most sport trim cars in this class

Astra - Underpowered olds mobile for the ricer with negative style levels. --- Astra VXR, Coupe 888, mk4 GSi?

Cavalier - Just crap. --- best car in it's class at the time...

Eh? If it stops you from putting it in a ditch surely it's a good thing? What I find interesting is how you know the car reacts in different states at 17.......watching too much top gear I think;)

You are referring to the CL65 and yes it does get to 60 quicker than other Mercs.

Why would you need a S55 AMG just to cruise up and down motorways when a 320 cdi will do? You are missing the point of the car. You were talking about your 'apparent' dislike of electronics controlling the car yet you mention you'd have an M5 for the weekend...?;)

Yeh i can only take what top gear tell me as the gospel...Maybe it is wrong but i never looked it up to be sure. You got me.

I would take an S55 for crusing the motorway cause its like a yacht and you dont have to rag the nuts of it to get anywhere. The M5 at least when your turn electronics off they are off.....and then you can have fun/put yourself in a ditch.

Well you would prefer to know how the car handles depending on what you do to it. Put the foot down in the merc and the TC light will come on almost all the time i would bet. I get my driving skillzzz from Gt4 ;)

cavalier was awesome.

dad bought bro and i a cheap car for bashing about in, a fiesta, and i stuck it thru a hedge.
replaced it with a cavalier. It was a j plate, 130k miles that he bought from a mate at work. Cost two hundred notes and we had it two and a half years and two m.o.ts when it failed the third we got rid for fifty quid. in that time we put 45k miles on it and all it cost us was m.o.t's, four tyres, oil, fuel and road tax. Was an ace workhorse.

It is wrong and you realise this as soon as you start to experience things yourself. Top Gear is a programme designed to get viewers, sometimes at the cost of the accuracy of what they 'report'. Remember the CL65 review when he floored it and it was standing still because of the 'oohh so little traction'? Clarkson had his foot on the brake pedal.....

The point of the S55 IS to rag it and go quickly, not to potter about on the motorway, get an S320 cdi if you want to do that.. As for turning the electronics off, only the most foolish people would turn off all driving aids on the road, unless their initials are MS and they drive a red company car..

No. Put the foot down in the Merc from a standstill and it will spin a bit, pretty much the same as any car with 500bhp. Once moving the TC light is pretty much non existant...and yes I will take you up on a bet:p

The Cav was actually better than the vectra that replaced it.

My parents being Vauxhall employees meant we had plenty of Cavs, wonderful cars:D

Far from it. Probably best car in it's class between 83 and 93 until the Mondeo came along.
Only the Sierra ever really "challenged" it in the 80's and early 90's, and even though I really like my Sierra's, the Cavalier 3 is definitely the *better* car.

And as most people here will tell you, I'm far from a Vauxhall fanboy!

I have got to say Ford. Its not the cars which are very good nowadays its the die hard school of ex-Escort owners.

You Know the type, they had wet dreams about the proposition of an Escort Cosworth. They are the types who go to the motor show not to see the endless stands of variety and beauty, but the latest souped up Focus.

A guy at my work is still an Escort owner although its totally shagged out its still the best car in the world to him. His last words that still make me cringe " I love Escorts, they knock, they bang but they still keep going".

I dont like them casue even when you turn electronics off....they are still on. I dont wanna know a computer just stopped the engine making a million pounds of torque and trying to put me in a ditch. The clk65 or whatever its called doesnt get to 60 quicker than any other merc cause it cant put the power down :(

Mate, you've not even passed your driving test yet, do you not think its a bit early for opinions like that?

I'd personally never consider buying:

Renault, Peugeot or Citroen. From limited experience all have build quality issues, all lose a lot of money on resell and generally have bad style

FIAT - Cars that look nice, but fall apart a lot

Vauxhall - I cant imagine walking into a Vauxhall garage and lusting after their cars, bland bland bland company cars

KIA, Daewoo etc etc - These cars just confirm that you've fulfiled your requirement to society and your just waiting to die.

Ok, should have added, these opinions are based on look and general attitude alone.

I'm talking about the old style Corsas. All seem to have crappy ubranded ugly wheels on them lol.

Same goes for the astra.

Soz, should have said. Sure they may be good, but I hate the styling and general look of them :)

Not all of them :)

I'm going to nominate GM. Not because of any one car, or dealer problem, or irrational hatred due to being American. No, I nominate them for something far worse.

They stopped making Oldsmobiles.

I'm probably talking ball for a lot of this as I don't have a vast amount of knowledge on the M5/S55, so quote away ;)
I'm sure there's a very similar amount of electronics that hav eto be kept on to keep the car on the road on the M5 to the S55. Though I'm drawing a little from what I've read and seen, the M5 seems to be packed to the brim with electronic control systems to get that car moving etc, though I've never driven one, or used the i-drive system. I know you can turn off things like TC etc, but I'd have thought there's a still a load of aids that are on both than can be turned on/off at will.

And I'd be worried and rather not be on the same road if you judge your driving knowledge and skill on a silly arcade racing game. Unless you're joking of course ;)

What is it you find about the power delivery style of a Biturbo V12 that makes it inferior to a normally aspirated V10? ;)

I prefer an engine that you have to rev....say S200,M3,M5 so on. Not like.....push the pedal.....think your going to space n then have to shift a millisecond later.

God damn,i would take ANYTHING right now. I just prefer...an NA engine. The sound of an S65 V10
