Ok, maybe that's what it's also known as, but I know "Banter" as friendly chit chat.
Likewise - synonymous with playful teasing. I'm just imagining all these heavy-set guys leaping into each other squealing 'oooo, get you with your fancy shoes!', 'ooo, would you look at his floppy hair!' :D.

I don't go to gigs with mosh pits, fortunately.

I'm sure they still do :p
Heafy tried to get one going at newcastle too. But the crowd didn't open up.

My mates seeing them in canada in the next few weeks. I'll see if they still do (LoG). Would be a shame if not. I've not heard anything about it.

Got a link at all?

well it seems they was told by ozzfest not to carry on with wall of deaths due to injurys.

and a wall of death to trivium? funniest thing ive heard in a while!

ive seen lamb of god live, and they didnt do the wall of death.

this is the only bit of info i can see doesnt say an overall ban though.

Uranium: (laughs) Alright, well I’ll get started. I heard that the Ozzfest management actually ordered you guys to stop doing the Wall of Death. Are most of the kid still doing it at shows, and do you know if any band at Ozzfest has ever been ordered to stop doing something like that?

Randy: Well, Ozzfest management wasn’t so concerned about it until they got a call from their insurance. Someone saw it online. So we got emails from Sharon that were like, “Look, insurance has called and said no.” A couple of times kids have still done it if they know what’s up. They call for it every day.

illegal. how the hell can they be illegal, so hundreds of people get arrested for joining in?

surely people can just join 2 sides then run at each other. what will they make illegal next, the game 'british bulldog' in school?

on a sidenote circles of death and walls of death are fun, just dont fall over or you ******!

never said illegal just seems places ask of them not to perform them due to insurance.

my bad, i read 'banned' as 'illegal'. I reckon people will still do them because its only the a couple of cases were people end up with serious injuries or dead

No insults, read the FAQ.

The question was "Is it becasue its so intense", otherwise I see no question marks.

It's not hard to explain why people get hurt in mosh pits... its becasue they look like an experiment with retards and whiskey gone wrong...

You moan when someone insults you, yet you're quick enough to again have a dig at people who 'mosh'.

How damn stereotypical an hypocritical do you want to get?

The OcUK rules have no jurisdiction at concert venues, nor do they prohibit moshing...

I wasn't referring to the OcUK FAQ, more to the fact that you take a completely unjustified dig at a certain genre of people for doing what they enjoy, yet when you are called an idiot you straight away pick that person up for it.

I know exactly what you were referring to - I criticise people who wish to commit pointless violence against each other even if they are "doing what they enjoy" and I dig people who breka the OcUK rules... I see no hypocricy. Also, I didn't say that I don't believe insults, they're just definately not appropriate when aimed at for merely having an opinion...

lol well said.

I've never understand the belief that moshing is about hurting each other.. it seems to be a popular thing nowadays though which kinda wrecks it. People throwing punches or kicks or windmilling are just idiots. You can let off steam without resorting to mindless violence. Just because you learnt enough about mosh etiquette to pick people up doesnt mean it's ok to punch them in the face 10 seconds later

Skankin on the other hand is far more fun and at a decent gig people will know whats what and have a much better time.

As for the OP's question (which has been answered anyway) -- two things; adrenalin and alcohol.

I also thought a circle pit was just one way to start a regular pit; by running around.

This stuff is nothing new anyway, it was around in the 70's with the sex pistols and Ramones and was done a hell of a lot better. Now it just looks like a bunch of kids 'trying' to fit in with a scene they dont know anything about.

lawl. Guy's, i'm going to stand on stage and tell you to run into eachother. Who's in?

Harry Potter and the WALL OF DEATH!!!!one

Stupidest thing to be related to the metal scene, ever? Guys on download festival forums say 'OMGOSH WILL TOOL HAVE A WALL OF DEAT LOLZ?' and a sig that says how non-conformist they are.

Yeah, let's not listen to Bush or Blair, but listen to some pleb on stage that tells you to run head first into somebody else?

Imbeciles.

It's hardly pointless violence. It's not like a group of townies stabbing each other over a porn mag. It's a group of people releasing a lot of emotion. People will get hit, most of the time not on purpose. Everyone in the mosh pit is in the same situation and that's why you wouldn't necessarily feel the pain.

It is hypocritical degrading someone and then in your next post defending yourself when someone has simply called you an idiot, then going on to making more stupid comments.

Disagree, entirely. Check the Lamb of God video, and look out for the guy in white, he's unmissable, front centre. Can you see him? Is it just me or is he following a guy, punching him on his head?

'Mosh Pits' may have been about releasing emotion and energy years ago, but now they're full of kiddo's who are trying to out-do Chuck Norris in the roundhouse kick stakes.
