Is this quick enough for a 1900XTX

Hello

I have just upgraded from a 7800GT to a 1900XTX :)

Sys Spec
Athlon 64 3500+
2 gig Corsiar XMS Pro
ATI 1900XTX 512MB

I was expecting a major *wow* from the card but so far i am unsure if i have other issues as it does not seem that much quicker!!.

Playing CS:S with the 7800 in 1024x768 i got 60-80 fps, with the 1900xtx i get the same!!
if i up the res to 1280x1024 the frames drop to 50-70

When i run up FEAR i get an autodetect setting of Medium!! and the game runs slow !!

the free download of 3dmark06 gives me score of 4500

so my question really is, am i expecting too much from the XTX or do i have an issue elsewhere ?

many thanks for all your help in advance

sounds like issues elsewhere, maybe your computer is setup wrong, and you have loads of other programs running the background, otherwise check your CPU is running ok, I have same card, running at fx-57 speeds on cpu, wipes the floor with fear everything on high

What PSU do you have, the x1900's use a huge amount of power, you might not have enough oomph to power it.

Welcome to the forums btw. :)

Hey - cheers for the welcome - got some good recommendations that people here know there stuff :)

I have a 450w PSU cannot remember the make

CS:S isnt a good game as the 7800GT is already enough for the game. Id say your CPU is holding you back as its a very cpu dependant game. At 1024x768 full settings i get 144FPS average in the stress test. I also get the same result at 1280x1024. I'd say you really need to make your resolution higher.

I dont have a clue about fear or the bad 3dmark score though

See that worries me as them setting on my rig FEAR runs Choppy :(

btw - the PSU is 480W

What make is your PSU? And also what are the amps on the rails?
There should be a sticker on your PSU listening the amps on the 12v, 5v, 3v rails.

sounds like a cheap psu youve got there, and it also looks like its got half the amount of amperage on the 12v+ rail. that wont be enough to feed a x1900xtx mate, youre throttling it with lack of power im afraid. you NEED a new psu to improve performance

Cheers for the advice - never knew that the Voltages mattered so much, but it makes sense when you give it some thought !

Can you or anyone recommend a decent PSU for a sane amount of cash ?

Also

what Amps would you expect from a decent PSU ?

Thanks
