hi guys, got an Astra 1,7D, low blow turbo on a Nreg 1996, im about to change the brake pads on it and thought id change the brake fluid awell as i have never done it and im not sure when it has been done last.

went to my local motor factors and they had dot 4 and dot 5.1, naturaly i purchased the 5.1 as its better. Ive not used it yet, but it being an old car, would it still be wise to use dot 4 or use dot 5.1?

thanks!

DOT5.1 is compatible with older fluids such as DOT4 so there should be no problems. The (increasingly rare) DOT5 silicon brake fluid is the one that is incompatible with mineral fluids and requires the system to be flushed out.
