gaming problem/hardware?

i bought a hp xe4100 laptop which is 1.2ghz celeron,30gb hdd,256 133 sdram.I thought i would try to put old games on it to try see if they would work.The games i tryed was Fruit Machine Mania,total annihlation and red alert.The games install fine but when i try to run them i click on exe and nothing happens.The egg timer appears then goes away.I know the laptop is pretty low spec but i thought old games would run on it fine.I have windows xp sp2 installed and i have directx 9c.Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

I managed to get tiberiun sun working,then i found out red alert one doesnt even work on any xp machine?.Maybe it was just the games i was trying.

Open the C: drive in my computer, open the program files folder, open the game folder and find the game exe file (executable - looks like the game icon).

Right mouse click it and left click on properties.

Click the compatibility tab and set it to run the game as windows 98.

Job done..
