Well, I think I could sell my 6800gt for like £70-80, and I need to get a better card with the money I get. I might be able to stretch a little bit
any suggestions?
cheers

For £80? Maybe second-hand ;)

Better card? Maybe 7600GT for around £117

A 7600gt won't provide enough of an increase in performance to justify changing cards tbh. (according to reviews you are looking at 10-15% performance increase tops).

unless you heavily overclock the 7600, in which case you'll proberbly see maybe 20% increase, im not sure though i get 7100+ in 3D mark '05 with single one of mine, what does 6800GT get?

The difference in 3dmark05 is quite pronounced (I think a GT gets around 5,3k - my ultra heavily overclocked can get 6.7k for a rough comparison) however the real world performance in games is less clear cut.

I don't personally see the 6800GT - 7600GT route as an upgrade (unless you are switching platforms).

Possibly saving up for a X1800XT/7900GT would be the better option however for now sticking with the 6800gt woudl be the best option (because it costs nothing).

(BTW if you like PREY then the 6800GT should be more than capable, My Ultra can run it fine at 1280x1024 4xAA 8xAF virtually all settings maxed or on in game).

Ah hold on is your car a PCI-e or AGP? Mines AGP! :)

PCI-E although that means I am clocked only 25mhz higher on the core stock than yours. However mine has proved to be an excellent clocker and playing prey is brilliant even on stock clocks.

Appologies for taking the thread OT.

i get 5.1k with my opty 146 running @ 2.7 , thats with a 6800GT at stock speeds.

Im also looking at upgrading, guess im gonn ahave to save a little more, unless its to the x1800xt or x1900xt then it hardly seems worth it.

Hmmm my Ultra only gets 5144 in 3DMark05 with a Opty @ 2.7GHz.

its only a tad low, not loads....5674 is what i got with my GT@ultra using a [email protected] (remember cpu only makes a small difference in 05)

look at the overclocks he is using to get 6600, dont worry if you dont get close. (stigggeh resists pimping his 6800gt score :p )

i would put the ~400-500 marks lower (than i got) on your settings not being set to performance in your gfx options maybe ?

/back on topic :p

if your adding £80 to the 80 you will get off the 6800 (and your on PCI-e) you would have enough for an X1800, i am not sure if its worth it though.

just keep the money spend it on something useful like :p beer

pcie :( and what about a 7300gt ddr3?
comparisons between a 7300gt ddr3 or 6800gt?

It is about on par when clocked, why would you want to though? (seems pointless selling a perfectly good card to get one that performs the same)

I flogged my 6800GT and bought a X1900XT, only thing is I need to buy me a new motherboard cos my new card is pci express and my old card was Agp.

I've also decided to go conroe, so it'll be good in the end. I think in games like Fear, the comparison for me is 25fps 6800GT and 85fps X1900XT thats what swang it for me. Cant you get a X1800XT for £150 now?

Then again I've totally lost the plot lol.
