What do you have in mind and how much does it cost please? :D

The above spec looks good. Hopefully a new cheap motherboard will come out and save you some cash before the conroe chip is released.

Just a question - what are the overclocking capabilities of these new Conroe chips at stock? Looking at the spec Explict gave me...

They will overclock very well if you have good overclocking components to compliment the CPU. The only problem you might have with the above spec is the mobo not being the best for overclocking and possibly the PSU being a bit on the low side. RAM also plays an important role depending on how far you wish to overclock (see here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17592348)

Ah ok - im just thinking whether its worth getting an AMD X2 chip? Due to the fact they're having price cuts soon? Not sure yet.. Im just wanting it to run latest games, maybe run Vista when its out...

Well at the moment, the X2 3800+ is more expensive than the E6300 on OcUK. You could wait two weeks for a price cut and then choose whatever works out best.

Ideally, what would you go for? X2 or Conroe?

Ignoring the above spec and talking in general, I would buy Conroe for price/performance ratio.

Before the E6300, AMD were charging £211 for the X2 3800+. In that respect, even the pre-order price of the E6300 is "cheap" and given time, it will drop even further.

How does the E6600 Compare to say a X2 4400 as they're both 2.4ghz (i think?) in speed, in games etc?

Sorry for all the questions :)

The X2 4400+ is only 2.2GHz, so there is no doubt that the E6600 is a league above the X2 4400+ and it will outperform it in all departments. The E6600 is specifically the the CPU that I think has best price/performance. The X2 4400+ used to sell for around £330. The E6600 will smash that CPU and overclock extremely well, all for £250 pre-order price. Again, people say Conroe is expensive but look at what AMD used to charge.

No worries about the questions, that's what forums are for :)

Ok again, sorry as ive just seen the price with everything using the E6600

How would you think the E6400 would compare again, to the X2 4400. One is 2.13ghz, ones 2.2ghz but the 6400 has a 2MB Cache?

Im just wondering, because i want a decent machine that will preform well in game, aswell as multi-tasking etc.

I've always been an AMD Fan, but not sure because hearing things about Conroe ...it seems its the way to go?

This is slightly over, but im wondering whether i should change anything here? I want to be able to overclock the 6400 a fair amount, not a hell of a lot though. Just fast enough.
