quick question looking to upgrade from a ati radeon x600 and was wondering *** was better a Leadtek WinFast PCX6600GT-TDH Extreme Edition GeForce PCX6600 GT 128MB DDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-054-LT) or a Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO)

cheers

Radeon X1800 XT will be the better of the 2 cards, and for the money it's well worth it. Don't bother with the 6600 ulness your on a tight budget, you won't see much improvement with that to the card your running now.

Trident something to start with, first 3d one was the Voodoo 3DFX, what a card. What was the name of the car game that came with it again? Something with power in the title?

1. GeForce 2 MX (Shudder...)
2. Radeon 9700 Pro
3. Radeon X800XT PE
4. Geforce 7900GTX (DOA)
5. Geforce 7900GTX (DOA again)
6. Geforce 7900GTX (Working so far)

I'd say my favourite had to be the 9700 Pro, it was such a huge jump from the MX and ran all my games brilliantly. My ATI experiences have been far more pleasant than my Nvidia ones...

Radeon 9600SE...

(Thats the only card I ever bought, I'm looking at the screen generated by it now, there is a well used FEAR icon on my desktop...) So lovely card, and surprisingly able to power todays games, even if it is at 800x600 with verything turned down to minimum. (except the maximised effects bar, wierd one that.)

Upgrade will be here next month, and not a second too soon.

2) BFG 7800 GTX 512
3) X1900XTX

The first gfx card i went out and bought was a Matrox Mystic which was soon supplemented by a Voodoo 1 accelerator card. Firing up glquake for the first time using the voodoo was awesome and its been a never ending cycle of throwing good money after bad ever since :D
I suplemented my Mystique with a 4mb voodoo as well - what a difference! GlQuake and Tombraider looked absolutely stunning, as did Monster Truck Madness!

First time I ever saw 3d acceleration in action was POD running in 3dfx mode on my Orchid Righteous 3D. It was just so smooth :) Then immediately got hold of the 3dfx patch for Tomb Raider and the OpenGL patch for Quake. All those games went from about 15-25 fps up to 50-60 fps  Brilliant stuff.

Those were actually DOS games weren't they!

Also wanted to echo something someone else said - the best video card I've ever owned was also the GeForce 2 GTS, that was the biggest jump in performance I can remember, when hardware TnL was introduced. Then again my X800 XT was a pretty big jump at the time. Seeing Far Cry running smoothly for the first time was pretty neat too.

As above - Orchid Righteous 3DFX Voodoo 1 card :D Had a Voodoo 2 Banshee after that.. then Geforce 2 GTS 32MB... Geforce 4 Ti4200 64MB... ATI 9800 Pro 128MB... ATI X800 Pro 256MB... ATI X1900 XTX 512MB :D:D

Doubled the ram on each card more or less each change.

Matrox Millenium of some sort
3dfx Voodoo2 12 mb
3dfx Voodoo2 SLI BABY!! ;)
Nivida Riva TNT 16mb
Nvidia Geforce 256 32mb
Nvidia Geforce 2 GTS 32mb (Legendary card)
ATI 9800 PRO AIW 128mb
ATI X850XTPE (for about a month)
ATI X1800XT 256mb (current)

As you can see I did not upgrade for a long time from my GTS card. It could render NFSU! Not insane FPS, but still. Excellent card.
