My first venture into Motors ^^

Right, heres the deal, almost finished learning to drive, need a first car. The situation is :-

Unemployed at the moment
Going to be getting work soon

Just need a car for 6 months until I get a few pay packages in. Baring in mind that I'm 17..I don't want anything that will rape my wallet with insurance more than can be expected.

I will be doing pass plus though so that should take down the insurance a bit.

So yea, just looking for a car that will bide me over for 6 months, don't care if its a banger and definately looking second hand.

What cars are good runners and cheaper insurance for young 'ens? As for money ideally it would be <£1000 for the car...I know this will obviously depend how much they are second hand around here but yea...Also know a mechanic whose said he will look over the car before I buy so that will save me buying a dog.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Rover 200 old shape.

Can get a tidy (relatively ;) ) 1994-1996 214 for 400-700 quid. Couple of owners on here that can blast you with information, and personally they would be on my shortlist for cars on a low budget.

my 17 year old volvo starts every day :) Insurance shouldnt be too bad on a 340 but still. Insurance groups are not everything.

i was just pointing out the cars in insurance group 1 that could be obtained for less than a grand and be reliable enough to be used as a daily commuter..

the lowest grouped 340 is the 1.4 which is IG 6, not awful but for a 17 year old in swindon we're talkin 1200-1400 quid!

The thing is, if your out of work, no matter what car you get the insurance is going to bend you over and get your picking up soaps like a nutter.

£200 car £2,000 insurance.

Do your pass plus as it will at least give you your first years NCB and start you off.

As a response to the replies further up the thread. Surely this is why you have to plan for 12 months and not 6.
