Is is ok to use alcohol (methanol alcohol) to clean the thermal compound off a heatsink and cpu? I have some eclipse fluid normally used for cleaning optics and this stuff leaves no residue. Or is WD40 more effective? Il probably be using lint free material such as pec-pads as I have a load of these sitting around when not strapped onto a spatula. :p

Planning to cleanup an arctic cooler freezer heatsink for reuse.
Thanks.

DEFINATLY don't use wd40. Anything which evaporates completley will work. Isopropyl alcohol is the best if you can get some from a chemists.
