The specific model is more important than the manufacturer. The consensus seems to be that in that price range, the Ati X1800XT is the only card to consider. Only Nvidia's 7900gt will compete if you can find one that cheap.

Indeed.

I wouldn't get one even it it was in that price range. 7900s have some serious reliability issues.

Connect3D X1800XT 256MB on this week only, it suits your budget perfectly and nothing can touch it for the price.

And let me be the first to say: CAN OPEN, WORMS EVERYWHERE!

I'm amazed there's not been any need to post large pictures of trainwrecks etc. in this thread yet. ;) Seems the united advice for that price is the x1800xt! It's a quality card, loads of speed.

Now run, before we need to get out the flame-proof suits!

Do not get a X800 GTO, I had one after having a 6600GT the difference wasn't worth upgrading.

Get a X1800XT while you can for the insanely cheap price!

Emachines T2240 you say?

Socket 478, AGP and the PSU would not handle it.

Build a new computer...seriously. Will be easier than upgrading in the long run.
