Help buying a new PC

I'm planning on buying a new desktop pc and can't decide if I should go ahead with buying one now or wait until Vista comes
out. I'm aware that Vista will include DX10, but I'm not sure that my graphics card will be able to support it when Vista arrives.

1) Are there any graphics cards out now that will be able to support DX10 or will everyone have to upgrade to be able to use DX10?

2) I have also customised a pc (spec-ed below) and want to know your opinion. I know it's not the greatest
pc out there but for around £700-£750, I think it will do the job for me.

I'm looking for a pc that will hopefully last for at least 3 years with minimal hardward improvements. I'll mainly be using it
for gaming and running lots of programs at once (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, iTunes, etc). I can live without the best graphics.
Can you recommend any alterations etc?

CPU: AMD® ATHLON® 64BIT X2 4600 2 x 512K L2 Cache (939 pin)

Memory: 1024 MB CORSAIR DDR400 PC3200

Motherboard: ASUS® A8N32-SLI DELUXE: DUAL DDR, S-ATA, 2 x x16 VGA, 3 PCI

USB Options: 4 PORT USB 2.O CARD (TOTAL: 8+ USB 2.0 PORTS!)

Hard Drive: SATA II 250 GB HARD DISK @ 7200rpm 8mb cache

Second Hard Drive: SATA II 250 GB HARD DISK @ 7200rpm 8mb cache

DVD ROM/Combi Drive: 16x +/- DVD WRITER (8x +/- Dual Lyr) (5x DVD-RAM) (40x CD-RW)

CD/DVD Writer: 16x +/- DVD WRITER (8x +/- Dual Lyr) (Lightscribe) (40x CD-RW)

Graphics Card 1: 256MB GEFORCE 7600GT PCI Express + DVI + TV-OUT

Graphics Card 2: NONE

Sound Card: HIGH END ONBOARD 8 CHANNEL SOUND

Modem: 56K MODEM

Network Facilities: 2 x 10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN PORTS (1 PORT ON A8N-SLI SE)

Floppy Drive/Card Reader: 1.44MB FLOPPY DISK DRIVE

Case: Stylish Silver/Black Trident case

Power Supply & Cooling: 500W (Peak) Super Quiet Dual Rail PSU with 120mm fan

Operating System required: NONE

Firewire & Video Editing: 1 x FIREWIRE PORT ONBOARD (A8N-SLI DELUXE ONLY)

3) If I buy it now, will I need to make any major changes to the system if I install Windows Vista when it comes out?

4) Also, I'm hoping to get an SLI compatible motherboard so I can add another graphics card eventually, is there a better
CPU I can get than the one specified above?

Thanks a lot for your help and apologies if this is ultra trivial...

Hi there,

for the money you are spending I would go Conroe mate... so much more bang for your buck. There are no dx10 cards out at the moment.

BUT strongly recommend Conroe chips mate
