Ok the more threads I read the more confused I am.

What board works with the conroe ?

And what memory ?

It seems that it is a voltage problem, but I dont really care what the reasons are. I just want a board and memory that works together out of the box.

So if possible all you lucky people that have a working conroe could post your MB model and memory, it would be a great help.

I was ready to order a ds3 and the gskill nr memory until I read the forums.

Thanks in advance for your help :)

If you want a DS3 I'd recommend the Corsair C5 PC2-6400, I don't there have been any issues with this combination. There was an issue with old BIOSs not supporting Conroe being shipped with motherboards claiming to support it, most of them are now updated. Some retailers state the BIOS version to assure people it will work, if you're concerned and want to buy from OcUK it may be worth a phonecall to find out.

not dead set on the ds3 just want to get a board and some memory that will work straight away. I dont have any other ddr2 or a celeron processor so It has to work out of the box.

So who has a board working ?

Over there...
if you're really that worried then probably i'd suggest getting the P5W - has better memory compatibility by all accounts.

I've got a DS4 and Corsair XMS2 5300 RAM. If you remind me i'll let yuou know how it goes.

The only problems i herad so far are between - Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 / DS4 and - G.Skill 2GB DDR2 HZ PC2-6400

The other Gskills are supposed to be fine though. :)

Issues with GSkill NR aswell I think.

Doesn't recognise at the right speed but there is no booting problems. Speed can be forced in the BIOS so it's just a pain more than anything.

I havent seen anything to suggest HZ problems, it's mainly ZX or NR

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC5300 667MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB5300DC) (MY-034-GL) link

and

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-061-GI) link

worked out of the box for me, as the GeIL memory only requires 1.8V. It doesn't get the timings right (defaults to 3-5-5-15, instead of 4-4-4-12), but these can be changed in the BIOS.

Hope this helps.

Servo what bus speed are you running those Geil ddr2 at? can you get them to 450mhz in dual channel? and how much volts are putting through them? Any chance of cpuz screenie to show timings as well?

Cheers
