Hi guys, brought a Asus P5W DH the other day and spent an age working out how to get 2 74gb raptors working with it. Now i have managed this i have another problem, i cannot for the life of me get another 2 hard drives setup on it. I have 2 250GB hitachi drives. I ve tried them on the EZ backup in both raid 0 & 1 and nothing appears, i cannot even get the setting in the bios to stick.

So has anyone got 4 hd drives working on this board in a similar fashion ie 2 raid on the intel chip ich7r and then 2 hard drives on another controller etc.

If so can some one tell me which sata ports to use and how the heck you do it, step by step please in the format of a dummies book with pictures if you like hehe. Doesnt help when asus give you the wrong files etc etc.

So come on someone else must have a similar setup? I ll post any other details you guys want a bit later..

Cheers

I have exactly the same config as you mate,

drop me a mail, its in my trust.

When i get home i will email you how to do it.

from the top of my head,

2 x 74gb raptors on the intel controller. in raid 0 setup.

go into the bios, under the ide section set the controller to raid.

re-boot ctrl I to get into the setup and create the raid set.

For the 2 x 250gb hdd's i plugged them into the asus ez raid connectors, at the bottom the orange ones.

i also had to change a jumper on the mobo, and also disable the j-micoron controller in the bios. (the jumper change on the mobo is in the manual, i set mine up for raid 0).

it is a real pain in the ass as i actually have another 2 drives i wouldnt mind connecting upto this mobo but cant. and i didnt really want to raid 0 my storage drives, so i have now resigned my self to having to back it up every week.

Really feel cheesed off about the drive config options on this mobo.

But other wise it is a great board

hope thats of some help.

Cheers

Tell me about it, I have managed to set 6 drives up on this board & what a flaming nightmare it was. I have raid 0 on the intel controller, raid 1 on the ez backup thing (ez  ), 1 drive on the intel controller and 1 on the Jmicron thing too (with the port right by the heat pipe. Everytime I install the software for EZ backup with the Jmicron thing switched on I get an instant bluescreen of death.

I read in the instructions that you should never turn the Jmicron controller off or you get "unpredictable results." My results were that I needed a complete reinstall of windows.

Cheers for the help.

UPDATE i cannot overclock at all with the any settings i dial in manually and get this mobo to boot. I can use the asus oc settings that confure everything automatically. best i can get my 2,4 to is 3ghz. Not sure if this is a bios issue or not,

is everyone else on the latest 1101 bios?

i ll post again if i get any further with it, or if anyone has any ideas then let rip,

Cheers
