Hiya,
I have been in Thailand since the End of June and I am Currently living in the North of the Country (Khon Kaen). To be honest the weather is not a huge Problem. Yes it does rain but as has already been said it is Hard Heavy showers that dont last too long and at most a few hours.
I have not been to Ko Samui but I will be heading there in November. I am at this end of the country visiting Family (A cousin of mine Married up this way) and It is really nice. The Temples are really cool and if you like your food spicey you will find no hotter. However if you go to the Toristy area's and are not a fan of spicey food you can usually find more normal food too.
Give it a go. The Flights are not too expensive (go with Ematates, they were the cheapest I could find, but there is a transfer at Dubai out of Gatwick), and you will have a lot of fun as well as experiencing a different culture.
