Hiya,

I have been in Thailand since the End of June and I am Currently living in the North of the Country (Khon Kaen). To be honest the weather is not a huge Problem. Yes it does rain but as has already been said it is Hard Heavy showers that dont last too long and at most a few hours.

I have not been to Ko Samui but I will be heading there in November. I am at this end of the country visiting Family (A cousin of mine Married up this way) and It is really nice. The Temples are really cool and if you like your food spicey you will find no hotter. However if you go to the Toristy area's and are not a fan of spicey food you can usually find more normal food too.

Give it a go. The Flights are not too expensive (go with Ematates, they were the cheapest I could find, but there is a transfer at Dubai out of Gatwick), and you will have a lot of fun as well as experiencing a different culture.

Come on guys - cut the aggression. This is exactly what I was talking about. Loadsamoney's comment was a bit of a tongue in cheek joke - certainly not trolling - it hasn't ruined the thread yet, however reactions to it do.

Every time i've visited Thailand i've taken an English girlfriend with me, so i'm hardly going to pay a prostitute for sex.

The sex trade is the only fly in the oitment that i find with Thailand, tbh. Tis a beautifull country :)

I think the latter in Aug it gets and the most of Sept are bad times. But a bit of rain is nice when its that hot!

I really don't want to divert the thread but jokes about black people used to be just "tongue in cheek" and we don't think they're funny any more do we? I lived in Thailand for two and a half years, I have a house there and I personally find the standard "phwoar, sex, condoms, lady-boy" comments in these threads highly offensive to a beautiful country. Did the OP mention he was a sex tourist? So why does it have to be dragged into this thread in the first place? If anyone is ruining this thread it's Loadsamoney not me.

I always post in threads about Thailand offering informed advice about the country but every thread always gets dragged into the gutter sooner or later. I'm sick of it.

Well I could find jokes about garlic eating surrender monkeys or any other anti french jokes just as offensive, then I realise there are more important things in life to worry about... I even let the anti middle east comments slip - that takes a lot of self control...

Doesn't matter now anyway. Can't get flights for under 900 quid which is a bit of a shame. Going to go t'egypt 1 week all inclusive in the hilton in sharm for 500 quid. Lovely job.

Cheers for all the advice tho :)

Have a nice holiday matey :)

I'm off to thailand on saturday for 3 weeks with my girlfriend, first time ever, not bothered about the weather, I know loads and loads of people who travel there over july to september and they all say the rain lasts 30 mins to 2 hours, dries up real quick and sunny for the rest of the day.

Our accomodation has come to about £360 for the full 19 nights which is good, we've started out with hostels and built up to nicer places towards the end of the holiday. We're going to be doing...

3 nights in bangkok @ Urban Age - http://www.guesthouse-bangkok.com/

flying down to...

6 nights in phuket @ Kata Villa - http://www.katavilla.com/

ferry over to...

4 nights on Phi Phi Don @ Phitharom PP Resort - http://www.phi-phi.com/hotel/thailand/koh-phi-phi/phi-phi-don-village/phitharom-pp-resort/

ferry over to...

4 nights at Railay Beach @ Sunrise Tropical Resort in their best villas - http://www.sunrisetropical.com/

then fly back up to Bangkok for...

2 nights @ Reflections in the Freak Show room - http://www.reflections-thai.com/room/room308.html

this place is very cool by the way, check out the rooms... http://www.reflections-thai.com/rooms.html#rooms

...just outta curiosity...anyone gonna be in the same areas at the same time?!?

That sounds like a fantastic holiday, Phunk-E-Man.

I've just had a look at the Reflections hotel.... Psychedelic! looks very interesting.

I might just have to have a Thai stopover on my way over to Oz later this year :)

the one in phuket is very close to the one we stay in ( Le Meridien beach resort ) , only ever been to phi-phi once ( a few weeks before the Tsunami ) , not what I was expecting was not much different to any other commercial resort island , no idea what it is like now

anyway have a great trip , sounds superb

/edit

just to add , if you are looking for a wonderful seafood restaurant try "on the rocks" in Karon

Meh.

Well annoyed. Have not had the correct jabs to go t'egypt and haven't got time to get them done so am probably going to have to write that one off.

Anywhere else in the med that is good for diving? Was really looking forward to doing my PADI while over there. :(

Thanks for any help
