Hi, I am thinking of moving from a 17" 1280 x 1024 screen to a 19" 1440 x 900 widescreen. I am just worried that 1440 x 900 resolution will be a bit too big in terms of size on screen compared to 1280 x 1024.

How have you guys found the switch? Also is the screen a lot bigger?

Also any recommendations on which cheap 19" WS to go for?

Thanks

Think of it this way, your old 1280x1024 screen will be about an inch and a half longer horizontally and about half an inch shorter vertically.

Everything else will be the same.

Do the acer and Hanns share the same panel??

I had the acer and thought it was alright (unfair comment - it was good for the money)..

Had a lot of trouble with ACER support though. My dad bought the ACER off me and I decided to get a 20"

Interesting to know how PQ compares though.. Anyone able to comment??

I use a 17" (1280x1024) TFT at work, and have the Acer 19" widescreen (1440x900) at home.

Both are fine monitors but after a couple weeks use, I definitely prefer the widescreen. I do a lot of photoshop, and the widescreen means toolbars are spread out to the sides, leaving more space to view the image.

you really don't miss the lost height, but you do appreciate the extra width.

Go for it! especially if your graphics card can handle widescreen gaming at native resolution. (mine just about handles Half Life 2 at 1440x900 max settings, looks AMAZING!)

yeah i was thinking if i were to buy another screen later, but if i didnt get dvi this time then i'd get it next time. i think i'll just have to read some reviews of both.

can you return a product as faulty even with 1 dead pixel?

thanks

All but military and hospital spec TFTs are allowed 3 per million dead pixels, its some internationsl standard thing ISO somethingsomethingsomethingsomehing- followed by a 1 2 or 3, all commerical are 2 apart from i think samsung or someone else who have a no dead pixel garranty. 1 for military and 3 for stuff that aint important cheap phones and calculators n stuff

my current tft has 2 i think and it hasnt bothered me, but like everyone i'd still prefer not to have them at all.

don't know if you've already bought the screen, but I have the hanns-g 19inch tft. Its 100times better than my 17inch flatron crt. Mine also has not one dead/stuck pixel :D :D :D , and it only cost 126quid! 1440x900 is a nice size. it is a similar resolution to1280x1024 (times 1440x900 and it is only a tiny bit lower than 1280x1024). Also this resolution is about as high as you can get away with only one graphics card, any higher and you would need to be getting a 7950 or something. my x1800xt plays oblivion almost perfectly. having seen many tft's, widescreen is a must and I cannot find one bad point with the hanns g. it's bright, big and has no ghosting
