is 1200 a month enough to live on a flat on your own?

obviously it depends on how much the flat is etc, but say the flat is 600 a month would 600 cover bills etc?

Is this £1200 your earnings per month?

If so, what about tax? What about running costs for your car? Nights out? Food? The loan you have on your car? etc..

It all adds up to loads :(

Ye it would cover the bills but wouldnt leave you much afterwards. Cant you find somewhere smaller thats cheaper? On 1200 a month I'd say the top you could really afford to pay a month would be 400 to 500, as even just your household bills will be about 300 to 400 a month including food, council tax, insurance etc etc.

well 600 was an example.

i havent actually looked at any flats yet.

Theres another thing, would you be better off taking a mortgage out on a place rather than renting? or again does it depend on a lot of things?

You need to whittle that "1200ish" down to say 1000 definitely yours in your pocket even taking into account being off sick or an emergency or whatever. Then base your budget on that.

Saying ish will only land you in trouble when you wind up overspending and getting into debt that you can't pay off.

Well my earnings are 1100. I'm living in a 3 bed penthouse costing 1000pcm with 2 flatmates. So that is roughly 330 a month. That leaves me 800 a month for bills and stuff and I STILL find myself struggling come the end of the month! :(

Well that Nikki bird from Big Brother was £500 a night when she was an 'escort'. So as long as you don't want to spend more than two nights a month with a skinny bint with a forehead like a shrivelled up kebab you should be okay.
