Wireless Connection - Ping Woes

Hi folks, just bought a Belkin F5D7633UK 802.11g router and a Belkin F5D7001UK Wireless PCI Card.

Kit setup was quite simple, and Windows Wireless Zero Config shows an "excellent" connection, with a data rate of between 48-56mbps.

Website loading and downloads seem fine but gaming pings are a real issue - when I am wired to the router over ethernet my pings are < 10ms, but when gaming over wireless the pings are between 200ms and 600ms!!! I'm moving soon and will be completely relying on a wireless connection, and I don't want to give up gaming.

Does anyone know what might be going wrong? I'm looked in the "advanced" settings for the wireless card and it seems to have about 40 options, none of which are explained in the manual (what a surprise!).

Any help/ideas really appreciated :(
