Fed up with norton. what firewall??

should I trust the SP2 firewall or look at something else??

I've never even bothered with the windows one to be honest, never had a problem.

Even though the above is safe, I have still found the odd untoward thing on my system. Mostly spyware, but the occasional malware creeps in (once picked one up from yahoo of all places). I generally prefer protectionist approaches, especially with a dual core processor (and 2GB RAM - which is more the norm these days), in which case you won't even feel the AV/Firewall's presence.
