Several years back when I drove a friend's Ford Probe around in the states I remember the clutch had to be depressed for the car to start.

It sounds like that could have happened here. Fire her up then dump the clutch not realising she's in gear.

Some cars do that here too, I always start cars with the clutch down anyway.

I seen this video on honda-tech, I laughed.

All american cars have an inhibitor switch afaik, manuals have to have the clutch pressed to start and auto's have to be in park or neutral.

Hi there

Clearly American 14yr olds have no skills. Afterall in this country there is no doubt several 14yr olds nicking cars everyday. :(
