Inspired by the 'Status Quo' thread funnily enough I thought I'd make a Britpop one. I just wanted to pay tribute to one of the greatest periods in British Music, certainly the greatest period I have ever lived through. It was a cool time to be in Oasis vs Blur etc - coupled with Euro 96 - it couldnt have got any better imo:cool:

Look at the list below - ******* brilliant:)

Britpop, refers to the plethora of '90s bands who drew more consciously from the tradition of the Beetles than any single movement. Though the movement originated in the U.K. indie scene, Britpop was extrememly commercial with bands who were creating the soundtrack to the lives of British youth. Although the music has faded commercially, certain bands have attempted to keep the genre alive.

Supergrass
Pulp
Suede
Blur
Oasis
Radiohead
The Verve
Menswear
Cast
Sterephonics
Primal Scream
Ocean Colour Scene
The Bluetones
Ash
Elastica
Garbage
Mansun
Embrace
Space!
The Prodigy
Dubstar
Sleeper
Shed 7
Underworld
Charltons
Kula Shaker
Black Grape
Sneaker pimps
Placebo
Manics

One thing thats scary is that they'll be having 90's nights in nightclubs soon - kind of retro. Still it would be fantasic.

Of course what preceded this - the Manchester scene was imense too. Stone Roses, Ride etc etc - thats another thread.

British Music really did rule all in the ninties.

I don't think American music came close.

In twenty to thirty years time it will be the music from the band's in your list that will still be played in clubs :)

I was listening to them through more or less lack of choice when on the raido

I did listen to quite a lot of Oasis at the time and some Blur just dont think there that good in the grand scale of things. Verve however are pretty darn good.

Plus I am more of a rock man and was listening to stuff like

Green Day
Offspring
NoFX
Dire Straits
Eagles
Springsteen
Queen
Metallica
China Drum
Bon Jovi
Def Leppard
Terrorvision
RHCP
Pearl Jam

and many many others, guess im just not a brit poppy person, however I was forced to listen to most of the stuff you posted through friends and things, not by choice.

and also i tend to rate bands by there quality over time not by one song or one album, most of the above that you posted had maybe 2-3 decent songs which a good band does not make.

sure Supergrass had Alright and one later I cant remember
Suede had a couple of decent tracks
Radiohead had one decent track - Creep

etc etc I could probably go through them all but like i said to me one or two good songs a good band does not make. Just my 2p.

Lots of great bands mentioned :) My favs being:

Oasis
Radiohead
The Verve
Sterephonics
Ocean Colour Scene
Ash
Garbage
The Prodigy
Manics

I can't remember the last time I played anything by Oasis/Verve/Garbage etc , even though they've all released some brilliant albums. Oasis went downhill quickly after What's the Story. D'ya know what I mean & My big mouth are the only songs which stood out on Be Here How. The Phonics were brilliant up until JEEP. Look forward to hearing the Prodigy's new stuff should it ever be released. Radiohead are Gods in amoungst all those bands though. Enough rambing now...:p
