The term 'flat screen' refers to the physical screen being flat (i.e. no curvature, as on older CRT screens), not the entire unit. Flat screen CRTs are commonplace nowadays, and anyone who uses the term 'flat screen' to differentiate between CRT and LCD/TFT screens is getting their terminology mixed up (as in this case).
