As some of you on here know i have been restoring a classic mini for about 3 years and finally it seems to be on the way to getting finnished. I have fitted all new self made brake pipes, refurbished subframes with totally new bearing rubbers and mounts, i have fitted all the dampers, all the glass into the shell, most of the wiring, lights, some interior(minimal to get it thorugh the mot, then i will do the interior propperly)- basically it is now a perfect rolling shell. All i need to fit now is the engine, doors, bonnet and boot to pretty much complete it. Im taking a trip to a local mini specialists this weekend to get all of the finnishing components and hopefully i will have a start on the engine fitment on saturday.
So far the specs of the car are :
-Fully restored shell (not one gram of rust on it) painted in lexus grey
-Fully restored subframes, new standard dampers and standard rubber cones
-Repaired calipers with new seals and pistons, all self made brake pipes (i am very proud of these they look awesome) and new flexi hoses
-The engine is a 998 bored out 40 thou, new AE flat top high compression pistons, lightened rods ballanced, ballanced crank, flywheel and front pully assembly, ported out head (inlet ports taked out to about 27-28mm diameter from 23-24), mini sport fast road camshaft, pressesd steel rockers(eventually to have the backs welded), alu inlet manifold and 1 3/4 SU carb, LCB exhaust manifold and soon a self built exhaust with an ART bike can muffler.
-Wood and pickett style arches (being purchased this weekend), 12" black minilites.

Thats about it so far, i will post pictures on saturday of everything. Hopefully the car will be on the road by christmas all i need to do now is learn how to drive :p

Keep your eye out for a 12G295, by far the best head for a 998. The combustion chambers and valve throats are the really restrictive bits on the standard head.

Thats the 12g940 you have to pocket the block for. The 12g295 requires no machining.

without thread steeling... mines still sat in the garage nearly 2 years after i took it off the road, had one engine in and out before it even moved anywhere becouse someone bent the gear selector taking it out of the metro and dident tell me... anyway another metro turbo one waiting to go in now tho:)

its a lot of work but it so rewarding, unfortunatly the harsh truth is no matter how hard you try, it will start rusting again:( enjoy it before it does!:D
