I'm considering buying my first laptop in a few weeks. I've done a search on google but cannot seem to get any answers that are right for my questions, so thought I'd give it a go here in the forum.

Requirements for the laptop.
Surfing internet and watching films via hardrive or dvd. 17 inch screen would be nice but not essential.
My surfing would mainly be limited to short periods when I'm away from my computer elsewhere, or if it's tied up by another family member. We are on blueyonder broadband.

1: Should I go new or second hand?
2: What make, model and spec would best suit my needs?
3: Modem or wireless? Here I'm very confused.
4: Is a laptop the best and only option here?

Thanks in advance :)

I would actually build a PC, you'll get a lot more for your money.

It also all depends on your budget, without that we cant help you much

My budget around £300. Already have a PC. The Laptop would only need to meet the above criteria. No games will be played on it.
