Yesterday in Stoke my wifes school was one of the only schools open and there was about 1 mm of snow.
Today many schools sent for parents when it began to snow including schools in Cardiff which i've just watched on the News.
My wife doesn't even know why schools close but someone on here must know.

Only reason I cant think is health and safety. When I was a kid we used to make huge ice slides in the playground. Guess if a kid got hurt doing that these days the parents would sue the school.

i suspect that teaching on a day when half the kids wont turn up is a waste of time, those that do turn up will probably be too distracted to get too much done anyway

in my school its due to health and safety i think. The amount of idiots in the younger years, snowball fights, people get hurt. Let alone the ice, and if people slip or fall. Also how many kids can be expected to concentrate in class when theres snow outside to throw around? :p
