as title has anyone here used a private investigator? have you got any tips or words of caution. the matter at hand is an obvious family related matter, infidelity, and am just thinking of my options. please note this is for a family member and i cannot reveal too much information. i am just looking for reassurance that it is a feasible and likely successful option.

also can anyone recommend an investigator based in Canada?

sorry for the vague questions, and i hope you might be able to help.

My brother in law bought a cheep but effective telephone bug after noticing some strange behavior from his other half after the birth of their second child. He put it down to post natal deppression but unfortunately he was right
she was ....... some chap at work (even though a test proved the kid was his)

I use to be a commerical PI but the basics are the same. What do you want to know?

Last one I used spent four weeks watching my hedge then charged me £5000... Turned out he was a Privet investigator.

Sounds like the same problem my mate had. Guess it was his South African accent the lady on the phone didn't understand too well ;)

how effective are they? i am fearful of getting no results despite knowing that there is something going on for sure.

also does the evidence provided have any legal standing - i guess not?

how would i go about finding a respected one in canada?

how much would it cost roughly - i have the name and address of the person i suspect the other to be involved with, and all i require is tangible proof like photos.

is it possible that the investigator would go to the person involved and try and offer their services to prevent information reaching me? - unlikely i know but its high stakes involved so i want to be sure.

is there any other advice, info you can offer?

thanks

most things are sorted out of court. The evidence collected should stop the other party continuing

Use to be a book of respected indivuduals but can't remember the name. it is american but covers worldwide

difficult to say... we charges £300 a day plus expenses. Domestic investigations should be a lot cheaper. A few pics should cost about 100 quid

not likely

laws here in the uk are very different then that across the pond. things like bin lifts and privacy may affect what they can do

thanks

It will cost you a fortune without any guaranteed results. Some years ago my sister used one to spy on her now ex-husband (assuming you want to look at a partner). He charged about £300 per day plus expenses and he did rack up plenty of them. All she got was a few photographs of him going in and out of work.

Couple of days later she did a diy job and caught him going into a casino with another women.

For cheating ex's your probably best off doing a diy or getting a friend to do it.

Then what's the point in getting one? PIs are to find evidence about something you are not sure about...

according to who? there is not one simple use for PIs. i want the evidence to give me some leverage. just because i say you are cheating on your partner does not render it a fact to you (regardless of it being true). tangible evidence gives concrete proof - it is not that hard to grasp!

Or to gather evidence is such a way which can be used in a court or to reaffirm what you know in such a way that other party can't dispute it.
