Ok I've managed to get these clocks stable with these seperate chips

E6400 (L638A) @ 3.6 Ghz
E6600 (L628B) @ 3.4 Ghz

Which would be best to use do you think ?

Si :)

The e6400 and have a nice pile of cash in your back pocket from selling the e6600 :)

run some tests, which ever give best performance overall keep :)

though the 4mb cache tends to make little difference unless you do a lot of encoding so id prob keep the 6400 with the higher clock

6400 purely on financial grounds, you'd never tell the 200mhz difference between the 2 let alone the extra cache on the 6600.

I just clocked my c2d by an extra 200mhz and it knocked 1 second off my superpi 1mb speed which is probably more to do with the increased ram speed. Hardly any difference at all.

Hmm, yeah I may keep my 6400, it seems to be a good clocker, maybe i'll sell the 6600 and get some water cooling to push the 6400 a bit more :D

Cheers

I doubt you will get it higher than 3.8ghz.

But building a watercool loop is a blast in itself.

Ask matt100 hes an addict :D

guilty as charged :p

you might not clock it further but you'll certainly get it to stfu and you'll be cool like me then :D

well he could always go phase and be even cooler like me! :D

when I get a spare moment in my life to start it :(

No - I meant between the choice of E6600 or 6400. If I had a quad or my current cpu sitting on my desk of course I would choose the quad - I don't so I can't ;)

I got a mach2 sitting here unused, waiting for when I get bored of my E6600. Truth is, it's so fast there's just no point in phasing it just yet, for me.

If you're not using it, I'll be happy to take the burden off yourr hands....

At most, the extra 2mb cache is reported to equate to about 200-300mhz. Also, there is a chance you could go higher than 3.6 with water, which would be awesome. Up to you though...in a way you might be able to make more off a 6400 at 3.6 as 3.6 is a pretty good clock, though 3.4 isn't too shabby either. Get a good few screenies (or validated cpu-z) with each one, and you won't have a problem selling either.

The E6400 i run @ 450FSB x8 for 3600 @ about 1.5v in the Bios before vdroop.

The E6600 I swapped with a friend for a previous E6600 chip hoping to find a better clocker :( I run it @ 378FSB x9 for 3400Mhz @ 1.5v in the Bios.

Both need LOADS more voltage to get more out of them after that, especially the E6600, more than im prepared to run through them on air tbh so I dont know if they will hit much higher.

I'm having a few problems with my DS3 Bios at the moment which isnt helping, on/off/on/off reboots and the like. I really would like to find 3.6Ghz on that E6600 then I'd be happy :)
