I've chucked together this POS out of bits I had lying about:

AMD K6-2 500
160mb ram
32mb Kyro 2 graphics card
6.4gb HDD

It's going to be hooked up to my TV and a wireless keyboard with built in trackball, and used exclusively for web browsing.

I'm thinking Xubuntu will do the trick?

I've run Xubuntu on a similar spec and it was quick enough. If you try it and it's not up to your standards you might wish to try DSL, a distro built specifically for low-end hardware. The only trouble I see is the memory. It's always a case of the-more-the-merrier with memory.

EDIT: Remember to get the alternate version rather than the "Desktop" version. The difference is that the alternate does not include LiveCD functionality and will install on machines with less than 192 MiB RAM like yours.
