It does look and sound impressive but if im being honest I think theres a lot on the plate ! lots of game modes for instance... you guys got 8 different modes thats gonna surely take like 2-3 years to complete !

I think Team elimination/enemy territory modes are the only real ones thats required, and id bet they will be the more popular ones.. ala a Counterstrike/battlefield type feel MP, cant be really beat every game appearing Ie Quakewars/UT3 and TF2 are similar.

Even combining both of them to offer one gameplay mode would be awesome and effectivly cut majority work load.

Did you guys discuss or poll this on your forums/website?
Obviously this is just my measly opinion but might be good idea to run it with the fans 1st ;)

Remember if your concentrating on just the 1 or 2 modes of gameplay you can excel at it and release the mod sooner.

Hey guys, sorry it took so long to respond.

Been trying to spread the word and had some success, we were featured on the C&VG website and now also have spots on Filefront and Gamershell.

Dave, check my profile for ICQ, cant always promise to be on but if you leave a message I will get back to you... As for what I do, I contributed to some of the design, look after the PR and will be coordinating the QA on the Urban maps. In my spare time, (what spare time :( ) I might try and put a map together, will have to see how it goes...

@HighlandeR:
The current balance of modes is to provide mass appeal, but you are right in that one of them should be our "signature gametype". While we already think we know what it will be, we will reserve our judgement till after beta testing :)

That said since the initial announcement we have restructured some of the gametypes. Escort was dropped as it was too similar to Enemy Territory. Defiance was introduced due to the clamour for an "Assault" style game from Far Cry fans. We very much see All Out War as a realistic progression of BF2's conquest and as for Team Elimination, the deathmatch option is very popular for laddering in other titles.

In our next release we will lift the lid on our final modes :)

Cheers

Too early to say :)
OE1 was around half a gig. Until we see what Crytek do in the optimisation phase I couldnt even guess what the map sizes will be.

It will be available for download on our site, and we hope to have it mirrored globally. If you are only on dial up and want to play on lan, I would have to suggest getting someone to DL and burn it for you, I very much doubt that we will be able to support requests for CDs...

:)

Obsidian Edge 2 (OE2) and the PS3

Thanks m8....

Time for a Friday story...
The internet has a lot to answer for; you know the way these weird and wonderful stories start from nowhere and all of a sudden people are believing them?

We just had to issue a clarification regarding our alleged port of Obsidian Edge 2 to the PS3.

Check out our home page and then google:"Obsidian Edge 2" PS3

The most annoying thing is that we didnt think of planting the story 1st!

I think that Crytek Announcing two studios in Kiev and Budapest, that will concentrate on Consoles, followed shortly by our release of Cryengine 2 shots was an easy join the dots if you wanted it to be true...

It was really nice seeing a different group of gamers excited about OE2 though; just a pity that at this time its not on our agenda...

Hi Sime, nice model of the SA80.

Had a talk with Suli, our art team leader. He would like you to submit an application at the link below, he will then get back to you, talk to you some more, see what you are about.

Art Team Application

If that goes well he might ask you to do an audition piece as you suggest, a lot of our "interview" procedure is about finding out more about a person character. In the privaleged position we are in we almost have to vet peoples personality as much as the quality of their work... ;)

Hope it works out, if not thanks for showing an interest!

Same goes for anyone reading this, we are still looking for applications for 3D artists and animators. If you think you may be able to contribute and the idea of working on a Next Generation modification, with the support of the worlds most innovative game design house appeals to you, let us know!

Applicants should have a good command of the English language and be prepared to sign a Non Disclosure Agreement with Crytek and an End User License Agreement with Crytek and EA Games.

Hi dbappa,

Not sure if you mean how long has Sime been modeling or how long we have been developing Obsidian Edge 2 (OE2)?

OE2 is effectively a progression from OE for Far Cry. That started development around three years ago and took 18 months.

With a short puase while some of our team worked on patch 1.4 for Far Cry, we then went into development for OE2.

Its been in full dev for around 18+months now, and for the last year we have been receiving regular PreAlpha drops of the SDK from Crytek.
Hope that helps?

Hi CuZ,

How is development going at the moment ? Are you finding many bugs/glitches with the engine/sdk/editor, and if so how fast are Crytek solving them?

Also, now that the specs have been confirmed, is it possible to give a run down on what rigs you are running, please?
