Sharing folders with other people over the internet

In my last job, I used to be able to access certain work folders at home. I got to these by clicking on them in network connections (using XP)

Is there any way I can set up folders like this to enable somebody else to access a folder on my pc?

Nah that is just half the job. You would need to set up a VPN server at the other end.
Probably the easiest way to share a folder to external users would be to set up an FTP server on your PC.

download Hamachi on both PCs, create a secure VPN, as the computers you want to share to the VPN, then just create shares on each pc to show to others ... its free, takes 2 mins ... just depends how good your upload/download on each PC ...
