Can anyone give me advice on how I can make a restorable copy of a complete Linux system (not data)?

I want to install Linux on a disk, configure it appropriately and then make a copy (ideally to a bootable DVD) so that I can revert to that installation at a later date.

I understand that I will probably need to copy (and eventually restore) the MBR, the 'swap' area and 'root'. I may probably also need to copy '/var' & '/usr' although I am not interested in backing up or restoring any data.

I have done this sort of thing with Windows in the past using Ghost but don't know how to do it with Linux.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Someone on another forum has pointed me to PartImage & SystemrescueCD - seems a good place to start.
