B3 Stepping, and I cannot get above 2.7ghz.

Voltage increase makes no difference. I am sat here on default volts idling at 38/39 whilst running prime it occasionally hits 58.

It just doesn't want to play. It's not the board as I had my 6300 running at 410mhz FSB.

Not sure whats causing it. All the settings are the same as when I was running the dual core.

It's an Abit AW9D-MAX i975.

It’s the 975x chipset that is the limiting factor.
In particular seems the Q6600 on a AW9D-Max is even more limited. Seems 300Mhz FSB is where it stops, take a look at this:

http://forum.uabit.com/showthread.php?t=126209

I have an old Asus P5W DH and anything over 333FSB is unstable so I am good for 3Ghz (333 x 9) so still happy as I paid for a Q6600 after price drop and got a QX6850 clock.

Also found some other posts about poor OC with the Abit AWD9-Max:

This one mentions 1.75V MCH being needed to get it to load into to windows at 333FSB

Thanks for the links. I was thinking of changing the board, but thought I might hold out until boards supporting 45nm started appearing.

Will be interesting to see which boards peform best with Q6600. I would get a P35, but none have onboard Dolby Digital. I like to Use that combined with my X-Fi.

I'm trying now @ 3.4 8x425 @1.42 in the bios. Temps are around 66.
1.38 failed within seconds.

3.6 is possible, 1.48 primed for 2 hours then failed, so I guess it will need around 1.52. temps were around 68 -73

Getting very interested in a Q6600 :)
ive found drunkenmasters progress posts the most usefull, thanks m8 ;)
I get the best idea for a 24/7 stable clock from knowing the cpu's max clocks.
before i invest i do wanna know about its whole clocking range.

still no 1 got a G0 on the go with decent clocks?

From what I can see G0's are filtering through. Theres a g0 on a certain auction site (price is a bit extreame though)
So hopefully we should be seeing some G0's middle of Aug??

Currently at 3.4Ghz 9x380, with 1.5v in the bios and actual voltage 1.44

Idle temps 38-40, Load 58-61, currently running prime for stability..... we shall see how long it lasts.

EDIT: well lasted 2 hours then whole system froze shame. Really think this v.droop is the porblem and got nothing to fix it. Might try 1.55 so 1.5 actual

I'v had my Q6600 for a couple of weeks now, was not happy with the temps, Idle: low-mid 50s on two cores and mid-high 40s on the other two.

Decided to lap my 120 ultra extreme (man it was bad) & CPU. Clocked @ 3.2, temps. Idle: 44,45,38,39. Load:55,56,49,50.

Testing my B3

3.2 1.35 vcore prime stable 8 hours, temps using tat below 59

3.3 1.40 vcore prime stable 8 hours, temps on small ffts, 71 71 68 68

3.4 1.46 vcore prime stable 4 hours (stopped by me) 76 76 72 72

3.5 1.55 vcore prime stable 3 hours (stopped by me) temps hot enough to roast a chicken.

These temps aren't really to bad, as the computer is in a Conservatory.

I'm going to do another blend test at 3.3, and see if thats stable also.

Just in case Easyrider asks, yes I do have piccys of 8 hours 3.3 stable.

Nice, what cooling?

Hi, I'm on water cooling, but where the computer is, it's so darn hot. Wife won't allow me back in the house, when she got the Conservatory built, she split it into two rooms, (hers & his), and I got the small bit. :p
