Okay. I've just successfully completed my first course in Psychotherapy and I've been accepted to study an MA.

The trouble is that I am increasingly realising that there is little/no way that I am going to be able to work in Psychotherapy until I have finished the part-time MA and then probably some further study. I don't mind this, hell I LIKE study, but the problem with this is that I obviously have to work at the same time. We are talking YEARS here.

At the moment I am working in Pubic Sector, specificially in policy - which basically means semi-politicised research, reports, analysis and surveys. I want to change jobs.

So, I am wondering what career to take. I don't really want an office job and I often enjoy working with a fresh flow of people.
The hours need to be flexible.
I'm willing to re-train, and I'm also willing to invest money into training.

I'm currently mulling a 1 year Masters in journalism as well, although I'm not sure how easy employment would be after that - particularly with flexible hours.

Do you like manual labour?

Look at doing your offshore survival and rigging tickets, work 2on 2off for a while, good money, work when you want.

Buy copiuos quantities of Mach 3 razor blades from Costco for peanuts and then set up a website selling them for £1.50 less than shops including delivery.

Grow copious amounts of cannabis and say your writing a thesis on the physcological and political effects related to it. Ties it to work and study - very believable.

Tinker, tailor, soldier, sailor...

Umm no idea, what skills do you have? How much do you need to be paid? Where would you prefer to work?

Would it be an idea to try and find a job at least slightly related to your Masters, if only for the possible support or additional understanding you could garner from it? If that's what you want to do in the long-term then getting some work experience by any means wouldn't go amiss I'm sure.

Unfortunately most of these are very rigid in their working hours.

Two confirmed kills.

These vary as the priority is fitting something around my study. Although its no fun being poor!

I'm not sure. I've got enough experience to get through to this point, the qualifications that I already have and the skills I have had to demonstrate. Part of the study will be placement work although I suspect much of this will be unpaid.
I don't think working in a 'caring' profession would help me any more than my existing experience - and considering the length of time that I will study I would rather find a profession that suits me IN ITSELF rather than something that looks good on paper. I will diligently search for 'trainee' jobs in the feild (some exist for those who are currently study for accreditation) yet there is no standard pathway unfortunately.
If I get a better idea as I prgoress through the course, I feel I NEED something on my CV I can go for it, but in the meantime I am open to the idea of any industry.

Have you considered a career in the construction industry? seriously?

CAn be a great pathway, surveying etc - the industry is crying out for people and the money is fantastic - its also an excellent way of getting into property refurb - hell in 15 years time you could be selling a house worth a million!!

Consider it - really.

im currently studying surveying mate - going into my final year at uni in Sept - however, you can study part time if you wish.

Go to the RICS website mate http://www.rics.org/ - that will tell you all about the construction industry and surveying pathways.

A good place to start is as a trainee surveyor and with a company that will hopefull allow you a day at uni and 4 days at work. The best places to be are major cities such as manchester / london. If you can get into specialist refurbishment schemes then not only will your job be masssively interesting but very rewarding - also you will earn mega bucks - thats my goal for 10 years time.

Hope that help - check the RICS website and email them if you need to - they are very helpful and will point you in the right direction.
