Will you please be quiet if you don't know what you are on about.

Building Standards around the world are very strict, in any country where they are followed they will be comparable to British/Norsok/DNV/AISC etc, please don't listen to people who say otherwise.

Clearly the designers hadn't been playing Bridge Builder...

That gave me a smile and made me feel bad at the same time :(

It looks seriously nasty.... I do hope the death toll doesn't increase further.

Since a few collapses and failure of bridges in the 70's the UK regulations were tightened considerably. Something which may not be apparent accross the atlantic.

Apparently there are 80,000 similar type of bridges across the US?

Building standards seemingly doing their job but reports not being acted on, someones head is bound to roll for this.

Highway bridges in the US collapse fairly often, because they are poorly built. Most of the time its just rebar (very weak steel) stuffed with dirt\sand and tarmaced over.

I wonder what they where working on the bridge at the time?

or is it just another case of a bridge hitting it's natural resonance.

No, as you can tell with the london bridge thing, as a bridge approaches natural freq it begins to vibrate from low down, this would have been spotted over the year.

Depending on what they were doing during the repair (if they were welding), if they effected a HAZ zone this could cause a key member to fail.

Great Wall of China - Stll standing

I would go on, but you get the point. Or possibly not considering the fact that you negated to capitalise England. :)

KaHn

an JIB approved electrician with city and guilds 2330 30(1),(2),(3) am2, 16th edition, city and guilds 2391 and an nvq lvl3. I think i have a right to comment on the quality of electrical systems in this or any other country. im making my opinion's from my expireance from working in another country (cyprus) and seeing the standard of foriegn tradesmen in this country. all be it i genralised my first comment and ill stand by that. i would feel more safe living in a house built in this country than one that was built in india for an example.
