I'm starting to get worried now, only one week to go!

I need six A*-C to do what I want at college, which I have no doubt I'll achieve.

What I'm more worried about is some subjects where I'm borderline A/B and B/C. This is what I'm expecting (hoping for!):

English/English Lit: B/B
Maths/Maths Stats: A/A
Single Science: B
Physical Education: B
Religious Studies: B
Design & Tech : B
French: B
History: B
Business: A/A

I already know I've got a double A in Business due to taking the exam last year. Business is a double award due to the amount of coursework involved.

French is my weakest subject and something that I absolutely hate. For the past year I've been having French tutoring so I shouldn't do too badly though.

Has anyone else here taken History? The paper is an absolute joke! Never have I been expected to write so much in such a short period of time. I'm sure I messed that up but hopefully my A* coursework will help me out.

If your interested I'll be studying the following at College:

History
Business
Economics
Law

Has anyone here studied any of the above? If so, how did you find it?

Finally, good luck to everyone else who is expecting results. ;)

errrrrrrm, no idea, I got an A in RE last year but I haven't got a clue how the other results will pan out :) I'm not really gonna waste my time worrying about it, it's out of my hands now.

Good luck to you all, a week to go ;D

I thought I would bring this thread up all the way from page 12, seeing as GCSE results are just two days away now!

Good luck to everyone expecting results!

Only got 2 this year (school does various gcses at various times, currently going into year 11).

Science 1 - A
English Language - A

An A* would be nice for either, but I think I ruined the exam a bit on English, so I'm relying on my near perfect coursework :D

2 A's would be a nice add to my A* in ICT and my lucky A in french, only need onre more a-c to get into college then :D

the debt is definitely not low

say you leave with 25k debt, the interest right now is 4.2% (and they can increase it at will).

that is over £1000 in interest per year just to break even. plus you need to pay the capital back.

**A big problem with the current system is that people think just like you did here.
Oh it doesn’t matter you just pay the interest ect ect. But that money will be paid back.

Best way to look at it is. A average student might graduate with 25k debt for a 3 year course. It might then take 3 years of saving 9k PA to pay that debt back (25k + 2k interest)

So at the end of 6 years (3 years uni, 3 years paying back) you are financially back to where you started when you where 18 and about to enter university.**

tbh the whole system is fracked up

unfortunately very true. the debt was excactly why i didnt go and i was a top grade student... :( friggin government. welsh and scottish (espec the latter) got it sooooooooo easy.

What a load of tutt.

I live in scotland so the system is a bit different. I got ABBBC at higher grade which is above average but still not fantastic. Got a conditional offer for Business Studies at Edinburgh Uni, needed an A in business studies higher in 6th year. Got a B, they still let me in and I got a good 2:1, almost a 1st and even came top of the class in one subject last year.

UNI is totally different from school, so I wouldn't let GCSE or A Level results influence your decision too much.

im not against students going to college for no reason, as at 16 your still a kid and cant really start working.
so if you get lower than a grade A go study it at a-level if you want to.

But if you get lower than a grade A and at worst a high B, don’t bother going to university.

the sad/honest truth is that there are probably 20 "good" universities in the country, the others are ****, to be blunt.

out of those 20 good unis, none will take you on to study a subject if you didn’t get at lest a B in that subject. so if you got a C or lower you are already in a "****" university.

If you got a B and go to one of the top 20 universities, then you are going to find it relatively hard to get a decent degree out of university.
And it is not worth paying the £20k odd and leaving with nothing, or a poor result.

my honest advice would be not to go to university unless you got an A in A-levels for the subject you want to study.

I know some people that have gone to these **** universities and got ***** results in a relatively ***** subjects and now work in Cafes or catering or a simple office job that they could have easily done at 18 having saved themselves 20k debt.

No swearing.

Zefan.

it entirely depends on what you are studying as to what makes a good university. A lot of the old polys (lol, yeah, i'm old enough to call them that) and so called 'bad universities' are the best for a given subject.

Generally this refers to technical or specialised subjects, such as specific disciplines of engineering, rather tahn the more broad ranging, less specialised subjects, such as 'biology' or 'physics' (which are very broad indeed).

In reality there are 20 or so 'universities with an outdated reputation and a stick up thier collective backsides'.

I agree that you should have decent grades for the subject you want to study though. Not neccessarily an A, but getting a c or d in a subject at a-level will make the degree a lot harder for you.

Not long to go now for me (I get the results, as many others do, on 23/08/2007).

I am not too nervous about it really because I know I cannot do anything about the results, and I am only having to see them (i.e. I cannot change them :p).

I will be interested to see what I got though.

Hopefully:

Maths A*
Science AA
English BB
Citizenship A/A*, but I couldn't care less about citizenship...
ICT n/a, I don't do the subject
GNVQ ICT AAAA, I already got these grades
Business A
Philosophy & Ethics C, again, couldn't care less...

In reality, I've probably got a grade lower than most of these, other than GNVQ.

Will post again in here on the 23rd. Bricking it. :(

That's my problem! All 11 & a half predicted grades are either A or A*, but I know that I haven't done anything like enough work!
For instance, the half term week before the exams I went away (with a group of about 100peeps I know) - but instead of doing revision I spent the week messing around @ the pool, and chatting up this girl :D
And then in my English exam I didn't even recognize the extract (probably because I never read the whole of the book!)

Technically the results come tomorrow, although in reality is still 2 nights sleep away :D i really want to know now.

i suspect i will do badly and get something along the lines of

Eng CC
Sci CC
Maths C
ICT AA
B/S DD
Electronics F (electronics was a hour long fag break for me)

pretty poor really :( and that's what I'm hoping for lol =/

in heinz sight if i hadn't have been such a tool i could have A maybe even A*'ed all of those there so god damn easy, but i didn't knuckle down until 3 weeks before the exams, so to be fair its a miracle I'm getting anything. Nearly all my coursework was given in on the day it was being sent out and it wouldn't surprise me if they came back to me to tell me some of it was in fact too late.

:( anyway good luck chaps
