Well, a little update

the car has fell through, the guy has decided to sell it AFTER I had hit "Buy it Now" on ebay. Which is probably a good thing

So I have purchased a new one which is getting picked up later on today! :)

£150 for discs and pads on a run-of-the-mill estate?

Well i was going with halfords trade prices as first port of call, and that was about £60 or so for fronts only. Also needs brakes lines done i think, fix the boot latch and the rear door latch. Daft wee things.

Rear drums(dont think it has disks if it like my dads laguna) wont need doing i imagine.

You can't go far wrong with an Astra, subject to usual reliabilty and roadworthy checks.

I had an N reg (1995) 1.4 Merit automatic which I made the stupid mistake of trading in just over three years ago for a....Punto. The Astra was solid, hardly a speck of rust on it which for a 9 year old car wasn't bad at all. Mechanically it was uber reliable too. Still can't understand why I changed it, for some reason I thought it was time for a new vehicle, vanity thing I guess.

We bought an Astra for £60, diesel with 190k on the clock. M reg. Surprisingly good condition. Everything mechanical was absolutely fine, ran really well. But it needed a hell of a lot of welding, rust had eaten the car. The guy selling was honest about that though. Not really sure why we bought it actually, something to do with parking it next to the guy with the Porsche. Anyway Fil (my American flatmate) then drove it down a footpath and got it stuck between two houses and I had to climb out of the sunroof. He eventually got it out and called up a recovery truck who took it away for free! Considering the fun we had in it I'd say £60 well spent.

How much is that Escort set you back then?

£300, but on the way home the Rad hose popped off (was perished and split etc) so getting £100 back from the seller to repair hose and maybe the thermostat.

so £200 with a longer tax and test :)

Looks good for 200 notes since its gonna get banged up most likely.

Cant beat getting a P reg laguna 2.2 diesel estate with <80k on the clock with a years mot and tax for only £250.

Ah damn, forgot it needs about £150 worth of work(disks and pads).I fail.

Cant beat getting a Fiat Punto for £100 with 62k on the clock :p
