    stock 5770 or vapor x 5770

Although the vapor doesn't have better cooling than the egg, in fact it's maybe a couple of degrees higher, it does seem to overclock much much better though. I have both versions (my vapor was £130 at the time), and the vapor looks much nicer with the blue LED, if you have a window in your...

    hrrrrm, 5770?

I upgraded from a 4850 to a 5770, and now that the drivers have matured the framerates are at least double in any game. The 5770 really is the best bang for your buck with the crazy prices at the moment.

    ** Official ATI 5770 Thread **

I have played L4D2 on mine BruceLee, maxed out at 1920x1080 with 8xFSAA. It runs absolutely silky smooth, in fact I reckon if it allowed for it you could double the settings and still get really good framerates.

    Regular Vs. Vapor-X

That's at stock Strawberry, although if I clock it to 960/1400 it only gets a couple of degrees higher. The fan still never goes over 50%. I agree with JeffyB however, the V2 cooler on the mrs' pc is cooler, and doesn't seem any louder because it never goes over 42%, and maxes out at 70cdeg. The...

    Regular Vs. Vapor-X

Mine sits at 40% pretty much permanently. The only time i've seen it go up to 50% is when running furmark (reaches 50% fan @ 73deg max). However even at 50% it's only just audible, you really don't have to worry about volume or heat with these, they are perfect for HTPC.

    Regular Vs. Vapor-X

I have a 5770 VX in my machine, it is definately completely silent, even when it's under heavy loads. It seems to overclock really well, and sits idle at 34deg, max in games 60. In the other pc there's an Asus with the egg cooler, believe it or not it runs even cooler (28 idle, 50 in games), is...

    Catalyst 10.2

You're not wrong TaKen, one strange thing i've noticed however is that it does idle properly in 32bit windows (I tried it earlier), but not in 64bit. I don't want to go back to 32bit though as 64 is actually starting to get better in many ways.

    Catalyst 10.2

I'm getting a strange issue too, in both 10.1 and now 10.2 the card won't idle properly in 2d mode. The clocks keep jumping up to 3d speeds and the card (5770 vapor-x) idles at 44deg instead of 32. Anyone have any idea what's causing this ?

If you choose custom instead of express you can disable any part of the drivers that you don't want.

    4850 or 5770?

Hi Flapper, afaik you can't connect it to your old telly. You would have to have either HDMI or vga on your tv. I use mine on a plasma tv through HDMI, which gives you full 1920x1080 and sound through the HDMI cable.

    4850 or 5770?

I upgraded to a 5770 from a 4850 and the increase in performance was amazing. The framerates are literally double in some games, and the lower temperatures and much lower power comsumption are brilliant. I would highly recommend a 5770 over a 4850, they are getting a bit old hat now.

    *** Official BioShock 2 Thread ***

I always prefer FPS games on mouse/keyboard, but for some reason I really didn't enjoy Bioshock like that. I left it unplayed for months until I got a 360 pad and decided to try it again, with a pad I really enjoyed it. If it were any other game I wouldn't mind but i've looked forward to BS2 for...

    *** Official BioShock 2 Thread ***

No way, I am absolutely gutted that there will be no 360 pad support. I couldn't get into the first on mouse/keys, which is unusual for a FPS but I thoroughly enjoyed it on pad. I think 2k games are cutting their own throats with this one, I won't be buying it :(

    Slipping Intro in Bioshock

You can't skip the plane part, but you can disable the intro to the game. Try running it in DX9, and enable XP service pack 2 compatibility, here's the shortcut. "C:\Program Files\2K Games\BioShock\Builds\Release\Bioshock.exe" -dx9 -nointro BTW I have had no issues with Bioshock in W7 with any...

    New Mobo Required?

Hi vidda, i've got a 5770 in the mrs' pc running on an old pcie v1 MSI board. It's been rock stable and silky smooth since day one, the framerates in MW2 and res 5 are pretty much always 60+ at 1920x1080. There are no guarantees though as the 5xxx series seem to be funny with a few newer boards...

Who uses their tele for their pc monitor too?

I use my pc on the telly, I sit in bed (health probs) with a wireless MS keyboard and mouse on the duvet and it's fine. It's also great to either play games with a 360 pad, or watch films etc in comfort.

    ATI HD5770 VaporX unstable?

This is all getting a bit weird now, i've had a few crashes etc with mine, which seemed to sort itself out pretty much after a reinstall of windows. However the mrs' pc has got an Asus 5770 in and has been absolutely rock stable ever since she got it. Her board is an old MSI though, with PCIE...

    Anyone had a puppy ?

Ahhh I see now knip, I never noticed where the OP said he'd been taken back. It's just a damn shame that so many dogs start out in life this way, bought on a whim by people who haven't got the slightest clue what they're letting themselves in for.

    Anyone had a puppy ?

He will eventually settle down, you've got to think that he's still a puppy and really missing his littermates and mother. The best thing to do is to get a dog crate, put in his bedding and things that will make him feel more comfortable like an old jumper, then put it at the end of the bed for...

    Flu Jab yay or nay?

I was offered the swine flu jab and seasonal jabs each time due to having Crohn's, and so having a very compromised immune system. I refuse both though as I tend to think they can do more damage than good to your immune system. Another thing is that very healthy people are more likely to have...
