    Backup DAS

You could also combine an Icy Box (IB-3810-C31) with a few switch bots :D

    Backup DAS

Thought about something similar to this recently (just upgraded to 20TB disks in my NAS), so I now have a stash of lower capacity drives which still have some life left in them. How many disks are you running? It would be handy to have a method of powering on/off drives as and when they're...

What film did you watch last night?

PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie (2023) - Went with my nephew/family on Friday. Better than expected, just your typical super hero/marvel film with the PAW Patrol cast. Enough humour involved to make my Mam laugh out loud a few times (not a difficult task ) Great timing from my sister, as I'd...

    Office Chair vs. Gaming Chair

Another vote for the Aeron. Purchased in '21 and my back is grateful. Working from the office is noticeably more uncomfortable. Expensive, but once you divide by the number of hours spent in the chair, it's not so bad.

    Baldur's Gate 3

My main character picked up the 'Enemy of Justice' condition whilst fighting a certain someone in their room. Charged two enemies and accidentally poked my head out of the room, without aggroing a few third parties. Do I backtrack the 3 hours and do it all again... try and find who witnessed...

    Small portableish case?

As you're wanting to add in another PCI-E device, you'd probably not get away with ITX as the motherboards usually only have a single slot. If it's going under the TV, a MATX will also give you a bit more room for cooling and result in a quieter build, with the bonus of extra slots. From what...

    Noisy Seagate Exos X20s

Are you still able to use them in your DS418 despite not being supported? I'm trying to hold off buying an 8 bay NAS on the off chance Synology release an 1823+, but my current NAS is a DS416play and Seagate were the likely choice. Definitely have some concerns about noise as they'll be in a...

    Home Assistants getting dumber?

Watched '2001: A Space Odyssey' at the cinema and all I could think about during the HAL 9000 malfunction scenes was how annoying the Google homes have been lately :D It will probably try to kill me on a hot day by putting the heating on full whack

What film did you watch last night?

Last night was TMNT Mutant Mayhem. The art style was pretty cool, but I feel like it was a bit heavy on dark scenes. Maybe I'm getting old, but some of the fast cuts meant I couldn't always take in what was on the screen. Tonight was Gran Turismo, much more enjoyable than anticipated. I...

    What's for Breakfast today?

It feels 'fresh' (Caprese salad) compared to claggy. Even thought I like claggy too. (Violife "cheese" on pizza is like odeon nacho cheese in pizza form - super claggy) It's an excuse to eat cheese and not feel guilty during the summer. Breakfast this morning was rice cakes with peanut butter...

What have you done to your car today?

Speakers repaired successfully. Made sure not to take any evidence photos as that soldering was a bit awkward. It's nice having all of the door cards back on.

    Home Assistants getting dumber?

We've definitely noticed a decline in their performance too. You can be in the kitchen (open plan) and the speaker on the living room bookshelf will set a timer when you're right beside the kitchen display. Asking for the news our kitchen hub often hangs when trying to get the update from Sky...

Update to working from home setup

To save on USB ports (mini itx) I've got my keyboard and mouse plugged into my monitor USB hub, which occasionally struggles with the keyboard (spilt beer on it years ago) Turning the monitor off/on gets it working again. I think it's more likely the monitor hub/keyboard than the switch.

Update to working from home setup

Depending on how easy it is to switch inputs on your monitor, you could just go with a USB switch for the mouse & keyboard, then flick over to the other input. It's more actions, but if your monitor refresh rate is above 60hz then you won't be limiting your refresh rate by introducing a KVM. I...

    What's for Breakfast today?

Huel cookies & cream with a coffee. Would love a sausage and bacon baguette though.

What PC games are you playing?

Just finished Noita. Held off buying it for ages as it looked a bit too intense to play after work, but a friend recommended it. It's definitely a profanity multiplier, but also highly rewarding like most roguelikes. You pickup wands with different stats and equip various different spells and...

    Takis

Only ever tried Fuego, which are a nice treat. Bonus that the village shop has them for a reasonable price (~£3). Another shop have Blue Heat and Dragon Sweet Chilli, but they're £6/280g and I wasn't going to pay that when they had £1 bags of reduced Pretzel Pete's. I would like to try the other...

Looking for a 2Tb m.2 thing that will sustain around 1000MB/s

It was more to discover your requirements as we didn't originally know if you were transferring large files or tiny files (sequential/random writes). Although less important these days as things have improved so much. Even write endurance has shot up. This guy has some calculators that could be...

Looking for a 2Tb m.2 thing that will sustain around 1000MB/s

Hey Feek, to get more bites I think you will need to provide more detail about what you're trying to achieve. As the recommendation might change depending on the size of the files or the workflow. I stumbled across this and filtered it to the information above. Hopefully you will be able to...

What have you done to your car today?

Over the last week I've been battling my intermittent codes with VCDS and a multimeter on my '08 A4 B8. Replaced all four door lock actuators Replaced the fuel cap actuator Replaced a headlight ballast Fixed the blower motor short I caused after using too much freshening spray. (Contact...
