Spec Check - new build after many years!

Thank you! I've been reconsidering my GPU choice, it does seem that nvidia are the better choice for productivity and obviously great for gaming too.

Spec Check - new build after many years!

Thanks for your reply! Gaming-wise I will expand my horizons I think, to make use of the new setup, so COD, The Last Of Us, Doom Eternal are all on the cards. I chose AM5 as it apparently has more upgrade potential than the current Intel socket? I can see me upgrading to a Zen5 CPU in 2025 / 2026.

Spec Check - new build after many years!

Hi all, It's been a long time since I've posted here, or indeed read any posts. It's nice to be back! New build time... My current setup is a bit ancient by today's standards, but it has done me very well: Motherboard: Asus X99-S CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-5820K CPU @ 3.30GHz GPU: Radeon RX...

Replacement for Sapphire Radeon R9 Nitro 390

Mine would regularly give me a black screen, a quick wiggle of the card in the slot and the power leads would restore things. Hopefully the new card is more relaible.

Replacement for Sapphire Radeon R9 Nitro 390

How very odd! I found another post elsewhere reporting the same issue. I'm glad I read a few reviews before pulling the trigger as it's dropped 30 quid today, result! Ordered. I love buying new kit, even when it's due to a less than ideal event!

Replacement for Sapphire Radeon R9 Nitro 390

Brilliant, thanks for the rapid response. Looks like a good card, no problem with power connector routing for me so all good. Thanks all!

Replacement for Sapphire Radeon R9 Nitro 390

First post in a long time. I've been running my Sapphire Radeon R9 Nitro 390 since 2015, a great deal from OCUK on Black Friday for £200. Today in the middle of a game the PC shut down, and now the card seems to be dead. No GPU fans spinning, nothing, even after re-seating the card so I'm...

    Router Upgrade Advice

The router is stable, the 2.4GHz network is awful. I've got the latest firmware installed and have done a reset. It seems common reading on various forums. 5GHz is absolutely fine. We'd all use 5GHz apart from the poor range in our house. My work machine is quite close to the router and 5GHz is...

    Router Upgrade Advice

My Asus RT-N56U router has started going on the blink, so I'm looking for a replacement. WiFi coverage using the N56U has been iffy in various locations about the house, so I'm hoping a newer model will improve this. I'm happy with Asus, so am looking at the Asus RT-AC68U and the Asus RT-AC87U...

    Please recommend: IPS | 1440p | 100+Hz | G-sync

Looking at the latest comments in the PG278Q thread, I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole right now.

Free Password Managers? (Alternatives to LastPass)

Another vote for Keepass. In addition to the password managing part, you can have a ton of fun with the autotype feature. I would be lost at work without it.

    Help me, 144Hz, 1440p or G-Sync?

I would add that we are supposedly on the verge of new hardware that should provide a big hike in performance, so what costs £500 today could be surpassed by something costing considerably less in 12 months or less. I expect to be looking at next gen gpu's and gsync monitors later next year.

Making the jump from Android to a Windows 10 mobile?

I got a free Lumia 640 from work, and switched from my old SGS3 with work SIM to the 640. Sure, the apps are a bit lacking, but I've never used apps too often anyway. For me it's Facebook, email, browsing, and it's just fine for that. I much prefer the live tiles over IOS or Android, it's by far...

    ** SAPPHIRE 390 8GB and 380 4GB /with BACKPLATE NOW AVAILABLE!! **

I think the backplate reduces any flex as the card hangs in the slot. If you route the PCI-E power cables so they come from above they add a bit of support too. Mine seems to be running great. Going to sell the outgoing 7850 and they seem to be going for 50-60 quid still, so hopefully I'll...

Finally upgrading GPU from GTX580 black Friday help

From a review I read recently, the Sapphire card only turns the fans on if needed, one by one, so it should be quiet unless you're really pushing it. Fitting mine in a bit!

    ** SAPPHIRE 390 8GB and 380 4GB /with BACKPLATE NOW AVAILABLE!! **

Mine arrived a while ago. What a huge and lovely bit of kit, hadn't quite appreciated that the backplate model is factory overclocked. Superb deal. Going to be my first view of the Crimson drivers too later... :D
