Who's happy with single gpu performance?

I built my system based around SLI. 5930k for 40 Pci-e lanes so the cards would both run at 16x speed, I chose Rampage V motherboard so there would be a full 2 slot gap between cards for cooling, and I use an FT05 case so the cards are verticality mounted using reference designs to try and...

The Pascal GTX 1080 Owners Thread

I'm actually considering returning mine. I upgraded from 980 Ti SLI to 1080 SLI. It was a very noticeable upgrade - maybe SLI shows an even bigger improvement compared to a single card upgrade as you get the extra frames from both cards and added together it was a nice increase. The fans are...

The Pascal GTX 1080 Owners Thread

The fan issue is fixed with the latest driver. Temps will normally reach 83C (the default Nvidia limit) if you're running a game that pushes the card and you're also using the default fan profile - obviously it depends on room temperature and case setup but for me the fan normally reaches 50...

** The Official Nvidia GeForce 'Pascal' Thread - for general gossip and discussions **

I don't think that is standard. I have reference 980ti's in SLI in an FT05 case and with an 180mhz overclock they both reach 1342 boost using between 50 and 55% fan speed, depending on the game.

    EVGA GTX 980Ti (Reference Cooler)

That is a very aggressive profile - it looks like at 60C the fan is already running at 75%. The default Afterburner profile (which I've tried before) is similar but not quite as aggressive - I think the fan speed matches the temperature on the Afterburner profile so when the temperature is 65C...

    EVGA GTX 980Ti (Reference Cooler)

Yes the metal bracket becomes too hot to touch after 10 minutes of running the Witcher 3, and this is on both cards in a good case (Silverstone FT02) with a good motherboard, so I think we have to assume this is normal for the 980 Ti. When you say you need an aggressive fan profile to keep...

    EVGA GTX 980Ti (Reference Cooler)

I will check and report back. I have two Palit 980 Ti's (reference coolers) and I can definitely confirm the funny burning smell (from both cards) when they are running at high loads, which is something I never noticed on any other GPU's in the past (including standard 980's). The fact that it...

Which 980 TI for me ?

I upgraded from 980 SLI to 980 Ti SLI, so I have some experience here - all my cards were reference 'blowers'. I have an FT02 case where the cards are mounted vertically so temps are similar on both cards. What I must say is that the fans on 980 Ti reference cards in SLI are loud - quite a...

    980 Ti temperature problem..

Thank you for the reply. I think the hotter card is still within decent thermal limits - what I mean is it is still keeping the card cool enough without requiring some kind of crazy fan speed, so I guess it's not worth the hassle of sending it back when I might end up with another exactly...

    980 Ti temperature problem..

I should say that my testing was done with a constant 60% fan profile on both cards to make sure neither was reaching 83'C and throttling. I think the actual cooling difference between the two cards is about 6'C when you take into account the difference between being in slot 1 and slot 2 on...

    980 Ti temperature problem..

I have a slight issue and I'm not sure if I should just live with it. I bought two Palit 980 Ti's (Reference coolers) for SLI. When I installed them I noticed GPU 1 was getting about 9'C hotter than GPU 2 when under load. I know this is often normal with SLI but I use a Silverstone FT02 case...

Using 690 GTX but can't see a sensible upgrade...

Is this really true? From what I had read I got the impression the more expensive chips with Hyperthreading showed barely any performance boost in games, and they were only worth it for multimedia stuff. That's why I went with the 3570k. If the 3770k would make a difference I might...

Using 690 GTX but can't see a sensible upgrade...

I have a 3570k at 4.4Ghz. I know a lot of the games are CPU limited, but for adding high levels of AA or post processing effects a more powerful GPU always seems to help.

Using 690 GTX but can't see a sensible upgrade...

I know the 690 is still a very good card so I should explain why I want to upgrade. First of all I use a 120Hz monitor so 120fps is the aim and despite only using 1080p resolution this can be difficult, even for the 690. Also the games I play are very demanding - rFactor 2, pCARS, Assetto Corsa...

ATI 5870 making noise when PC is cold?

Sorry i didn't explain it well enough. The noise has nothing to do with the fan speed - when the noise is happening i can manually turn the fan speed up to 80% and the noise is still there. I can hear the fan speed up like it should, but the loud problem noise doesn't stop. That's why it is...

ATI 5870 making noise when PC is cold?

Is it safe to stop the fan like that? I don't want to damage my card but if it's safe i'll try it. I'll have to wait till tomorrow morning to try it though, when the noise will happen again. Haven't tried tapping the case. It is an awful noise like you say - really you'd think the fan was...

ATI 5870 making noise when PC is cold?

I have a really strange problem that only started a couple of weeks ago. When I first turn on my computer in the morning (when it is at it's coldest) the 5870 makes a really loud noise - as if there is something wrong with the fan. However after around 4 or 5 minutes it stops completely...
