    Who here owns a Mini?

So how is the search going? Put some air in the tyres of ours! :o the onboard TPMS reads low compared to two pumps. Onboard said 27-28. Gauges said 30. So I put 33 on the gauge in which has worked out to be 30 in the car (was 31 when warm). Not sure which to trust… the car I guess! Should be 32...

Isn’t the plug in countryman just a company car tax dodge and well a bit rubbish as the range is none existent, you’d be better with a normal petrol one for a lot less money?

    Road Cycling

Who are people using for home insurance? I was with marks and spencer underwritten by Aviva but the cost to renew is up 25%! You just declared max bike value with M&S which I put at £5000 but again, difficult to put a value on a bike which isn’t off the shelf… I only have summer & winter...

    Who here owns a Mini?

I think you need to increase your budget if it’s currently 15k, as that is pretty much every option, or have a very small pool of cars to choose from. Fox will know. HUD might not have been an option on a facelift car (it wasn’t an option when I bought a Countryman), so you’ll be looking at the...

    Who here owns a Mini?

Preference on colour. Private dealer sale detracts rather than adds imo. Think I posted before my friend had a clubman cooper S and they were getting low 30s also. Personally I’d be going for a much newer facelift car in exclusive trim (possibly get some options ontop) with the 1.5 petrol and...

    Who here owns a Mini?

The private one in grey you’ve linked to looks the best be it the seats could have some wear. Can’t imagine fuel economy is going to be great for shorter trips with it being the All4 and the 2L turbo.

I have when I didn’t have phone signal in a remote area and I wasn’t 100% of the direction. Worked fine, shows the next turn to take in the speedometer area too which is an advantage I guess. Otherwise I use google maps almost exclusively.

Have you got your car back yet Armageus? I ordered some touch up from Amazon from MG Prime in Germany - BMW/Mini don’t do it in Sage Green….. Seemed to be reviewed well and perhaps better quality (claimed to be OEM) than one of the many UK paint shops which seem to be little more than a man...

At what point do you call it quits on a car?

Home mechanics fine if you are confident in doing it when it goes wrong. You’re one snapped bolt or rounded bolt from a several day project or making it unfeasible to do yourself as you suddenly need a blow torch or a massive power impact gun to get things undone. However id also be doing what...

    *** Car Wash / Valet / Detailing Thread ***

I’ll cross post this from the Mini thread: Washed our Mini at the weekend and noticed someone has scuffed the rear bumper. It’s quite low down but on the corner as if they’ve done a bad job getting out a parking spot. A smaller than 5p mark where it’s chipped too. There was some scuffing most...

Washed mine at the weekend and noticed someone has scuffed the rear bumper. It’s quite low down but on the corner as if they’ve done a bad job getting out a parking spot. A smaller than 5p mark where it’s chipped. Some scuffing most of which polished out in a very quick go over today using...

    Do I swap or?

Sounds like your mind is set on a change: I’d be banking the money/interest and paying the focus running costs. As your annual milage is so low it’s not going to break or wear things out excessively, but driving it so little won’t help. The hybrid mini is just a small range battery, and you’ll...

    Do I swap or?

Well presumably you own the Ford and you’d be borrowing to buy the others. I’d keep the Ford. Any interest on a loan plus paying the loan will eclipse the running cost. Your annual milage isn’t high enough to warrant changing for anything other than you want a new car. New countryman out in...

    Who here owns a Mini?

Would it not be the case that the newest of that model is now at least 7 years old (2016?) and any failure would be relatively early in life and have occurred? Now the risk of that part failing is as high a chance as anything else?

    Who here owns a Mini?

They just replace the “packs” of previous generations though don’t they? It’s a trim level of equipment some of which is exclusive to that path, sport is suspension and possibly seats, exclusive has leather as standard and gives some different options with wheels etc. The countryman JCW is...

    Who here owns a Mini?

Not much to report for me, 6 months in with the countryman. the average MPG has taken a hit with winter and short journeys, 39.2 now and 5500 on the clock. Nothing broken or gone wrong, just works… Done a few trips to the tip & to pickup some timber recently, good boot size helps, but need to...

    Who here owns a Mini?

I felt a choice of a few “free” colours wouldn’t have gone amiss! I don’t mind the silver myself you actually don’t see too many in that colour, they had it in the dealership we bought from (Williams Bolton) my wife wanted a colour or black, so we got green as I didn’t want black! Managed to...

Looks good, you have the upgraded headlights too I think (pretty sure they shipped with halogens on some). Whatever pack that was called. Technology I think?

if auto then put the gearbox into sport mode makes a large difference to the drive of it - I am sure you’d do this! The 2L (anecdotally) is a quite a bit more thirsty. Friend of mine had a Clubman S manual and was seeing about 33mpg, vs 39.5 which is what we are getting from our 1.5 Auto...

Snow chains or Socks for Tyres

If you have to faff jacking the car up to put them on then I’d just be buying all season tyres or a set of winter wheels. If you need to empty the boot out to use a crap scissor jack in the snow, then put some snow socks on to use for a few miles to get to a main road then stop and take them...
