Talk to me about computer desks...

I use Alex drawers and 180cm Ikea work top. Stood on the desk a number of times when putting shelving above it and I'm around 100kg. As it's a shorter worktop, less/no chance of sag.

    Games you're playing, and games...

Dug out my old PS3 for my little lad last week for his first gaming experience! He likes Burnout Paradise and at at the moment likes just driving around the open map environment. However it got me back in to it completing the challenges. Annoyingly my my previous save file and cars were...

Water Bill - Anyone beat this?

2 adults and a toddler, averages out at around £22pm. Affinity Water sent me an email saying we were "low users" averaging 65l per person per day. I use a fair amount in the garden but this comes from 1800L of water butts that get topped up throughout the year. I think only in the really hot...

How modern dog rescue centres operate nowadays

It's very much sided on what's best for the dog rather than what the person wants. Which isn't an inherently bad thing. Just like adopting a child really. Anybody can "do the business" and become a parent, but adopting is a tiresome and lengthy process. When we adopted a rescue dog back in...

    Roof leaking despite being 'fixed'

They do the work in dry weather and could be weeks or months before it's actually fully tested by nature. Had it before and was watching a patch of ceiling like a hawk when ever there was heavy driving rain after it was repaired by a roofer.

Did I choose the worst tiler in the world? scratched tiles

Do any of the scratches clearly continue in direction from one tile across to others? This would lend itself to indicating the scratches were done in one movement once on the wall (by the tiler).

    ITV set to reboot Bullseye

As long as they keep with the same low standard of prizes, I'd watch it just to see the winner's fake smiles.

    Mortgage Rate Rises

I've never seen the point of mortgage advisors if you have bog-standard circumstances. Each time I've gone gotten a remortgage, I've identified the best one I could and then gone to an advisor (out of curioisty really) and they have never found a better deal. As alluded to above, I expect...

Free £10,000.. what would you do with it?

Easy peasey for me, I'm really not in to my cars! I only change cars when one properly breaks / becomes a money pit. Had my previous car for 18 years. Given £10k I wouldn't see any benefit as the Mrs wants a new kitchen and I think our kitchen is fine so wouldn't appreciate any change.

    What's your CPU upgrade cycle?

Pretty much this but not time-related. Just when it starts to get clunky/ bottle-necked.

Government is talking about upping car tax upto £140 this year

Ditto. My road tax is around 50% more than my insurance.

    Mortgage Rate Rises

I'm making overpayments mixed with adding to my managed S&S ISA. The ISA return was slightly better than the mortgage overpayments but happy to keep as is.

Buyer claiming item defective - eBay

I buy lots on eBay knowing it's so easy to send back if there is any issue. Never abused this, however have had to return a few items as not described or broken etc. and been easy to do so. Never sold on there and doubt I ever will.

I've tried to like this game but just can't. Just too much slow and numb game play, especially at the beginning.

    Query over cpu bottleneck

Thanks all. As you can see, lows, individual core usage, etc. is not something I've fully read up on. as I am very much now a "just plug it in and turn it on and use" after my OC'ing and tweaking days ended some 10 years ago I think. I'll see how it goes for now and keep an eye on any decent...

    Query over cpu bottleneck

Been using my new 6700xt, upgrading from a GTX 970, whilst still using a AMD 1700x CPU. At 1440p res I've played Days Gone, Horizon Zero Dawn and Biomutant on high and ultra settings and getting around 85-90 FPS on average, which is fine for me. Not noticing any issues. GPU is showing 96% and...

    Council Tax Banding

Going to revive this thread to keep things more tidy! Around 12-13 years ago our property was a 2 bed and the previous owners did a large extension and effectively doubled the size and made it to a 4 bed. We moved in around 6 years ago. Roll on to last year and the powers that be chose to...

    Throttle position sensor issue?

Thanks all, think I sorted it, however to answer the questions, possibly to help anyone else in a search in the future...... It was either, coasting with clutch up or down. Revs were increasing but I didn't see what limit, just that it was at around 2000rpm and crept up to around 3500rpm and...
