    Partitions, OneDrive, Bitlocker = ?

Hi, Setting up a new laptop, which will be used mainly for work. Keen to check if the "layout" i have in mind is sensible, or really dumb..... 1. Creating two partitions of the 512GB SSD (OS, 200GB; Data, 312) and keeping my synced OneDrive on the Data partition. 2. Can Bitlocker encrypt the...

Macrium + Azure (Veeam + AWS)

Thanks! And huh? Is a secondary copy the copy of the backup? What are the primaries? I know what hyper-v is, but not what this agent is!

Macrium + Azure (Veeam + AWS)

Trying to get up-to-speed with cloud alternatives to a home-based NAS, but a bit stuck at the "unknown unknowns" stage. Is there a work-flow using Macrium or Veeam that automatically sends a weekly back-up to Azure or AWS from a few home and work PCs? This would be for a relatively small...

34" Ultrawide or 32" 4K? Help me decide!!

Right, well-out of my depth now - plugged in the USB-C at work and the display came on - with a driver i didn't install. Is there a stash of earlier versions which windows can summon? Pleased it is working, but not very confident it will contine!

34" Ultrawide or 32" 4K? Help me decide!!

Belay that - driver issue has resurfaced, and once again unable to connect to external displays. I (think) that an Intel driver was automatically upgraded this evening, breaking whatever was working well - though the times of events in device manager don't seem to line up. Lots of Event ID 411...

34" Ultrawide or 32" 4K? Help me decide!!

Apologies for disappearing from my own thread - was dealing with a curve ball as HDMI and Display-Alt stopped working on my laptop just as some new screens arrived. After going round in circles with drivers (Intel beat in-house Lenovo) i am finally back up. Looks like the UW has been gaining...

34" Ultrawide or 32" 4K? Help me decide!!

Overall, a perfectly split decision - no wonder i am stuck! One vote for 34 UW, one vote for 32 4K, and one - perhaps the most hopeful - that i will come to like whichever i choose! Wish it was easier to see the things in person!

34" Ultrawide or 32" 4K? Help me decide!!

I'd love a 4K Ultrawide, but as far as i can see they are pretty expensive. As in, quite a bit over my £500 budget even used.

34" Ultrawide or 32" 4K? Help me decide!!

Looking for advice on a monitor for office use. It will be accompanied by a 4K 27" in portrait mode for in-depth reading and coding, but i am a bit stuck on the main screen. I was leaning towards an ultrawide 34" (Dell S3422DWG or LG Ultragear 34GN850) - they look kinda sexy to me. :-)...

    HD Partitions - 2023 views on Size/Structure

Ummmm. Isn't the SSD a single thing, which will fail or not? It won't fail for one partition and not the other, will it? Thought i understood this stuff and am getting confused instead!

    HD Partitions - 2023 views on Size/Structure

Folks, Just wondering what the current thinking is on best practice in terms of partition sizes. Searched here, but didn't find anything very recent. Using a 2TB NvMe for a general multifunction laptop (Lenovo X1 Gen 9). Should i have a particular size of OS partition? The rest "data", aka...

DIY Chip-tuning - Done it? Advice?

Evening, Just wondering if anyone here has experience of chip-tuning? It seems like this might be a way to combine my enthusiasm for both cars and computers...... In particular, having bought a tuned 535d i'm amazed at what can be done. It set me thinking that it would be fun to try doing...

Wordpress Theme Editors - Which one?!

Folks, I have been surfing the World Wide Web from my IBM-compatible Personal Computer for quite a few years. Building systems, out of things bought from our hosts. Last week, i tried to build a web-site: a public profile for a new company. Holly shi-zzzz-le. Lost. Baffled. Website building...

Spare broadband - how to use?

Not sure if this is the best place for the question, or if it has an answer, but here goes...... We are now using 4G wireless broadband, which works pretty well. I was thinking of therefore dropping our existing ADSL broadband and getting a line-only home-phone package - not being quite brave...

    OBD Readers?

Any thoughts on which code-reader should I get? The aim is under £100 for use by an enthusiastic amateur. Been searching the forum and elsewhere but can’t find anything definitive/recent. The cars to run it on in order of urgency are: Golf (MK5) BMW 330d (E90)...

Connecting external HD to router using ethernet port - how?!

I am trying to connect an external HD to a Huawei B535 router using an ethernet port/cable as it doesn't have a USB connector. However, i can't see any settings in on the router to configure it and make the HD visible. Have i bought completely the wrong things?! Any suggestions appreciated!

Lo-Fi Home network - external HD connected to router?

Evening, I want to have a networked hard-disk available for backups and as a source for a few media files to play on a TV elsewhere in the house. I don't need the redundancy of a full NAS, nor the multi-streaming ability of a media centre. Cheap and cheerful is the aim! Would this set-up...

    Dropbox, Drive, OneDrive?

So, wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to upgrade and streamline my cloud workflow. For several years i have been using Dropbox for both work and personal files. I really like the way it sits inside the Windows 10 File Explorer system, but am slightly offended at the cost of next-level...
